After months of hard work and finding a time in-between the rainy season, our team finally had the opportunity to set aside daily responsibilities and enjoy a day dedicated to camaraderie, appreciation, and fun!

JED's annual Organizational Day provided the perfect chance for employees to reconnect outside the workplace, share a great meal, and spend time with colleagues in a relaxed setting.

Held this year at Camp Zama’s Dewey Park, the grounds were alive with activity as teammates gathered to enjoy games, conversation, and plenty of laughter. But of course, no Org Day would be complete without great food. Thanks to the efforts of our talented volunteer grill masters and servers, everyone enjoyed a variety of foods that helped make the event even more memorable.

In addition to the day’s festivities, Organizational Day also provided an opportunity to recognize several employees for their outstanding contributions and achievements. These well-deserved awards highlighted the dedication, professionalism, and commitment that help drive our organization’s success. Celebrating these accomplishments among friends and colleagues made the occasion even more meaningful.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Organizational Day a success, and we look forward to another great event next year!

Strong partnerships help strengthen our workforce and support mission success.

Yesterday, volunteers from the American Red Cross visited JED headquarters at Camp Zama, providing coffee, tea and snacks for our team. They also brought along Bella, a 12-year-old dog who quickly became a favorite among staff.

Supporting the well-being and resilience of our workforce is essential to delivering engineering solutions that enable readiness and strengthen partnerships throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Opportunities like these provide a welcome morale boost and reinforce the importance of community connections.

Thank you to the American Red Cross volunteers and Bella for taking the time to support our team!

⚠️ STORM WATCH UPDATE – ROAD CONDITIONS ⚠️

While it is recommended to limit unnecessary travel during current storm conditions, we recognize that some members of our community may still need to travel on and around the installation.

Current road conditions are assessed as AMBER at both Camp Zama and Sagamihara Family Housing Area.

🟡 Current Status:
• Camp Zama — AMBER ⚠️
• Sagamihara Family Housing Area — AMBER ⚠️

At this time, minor water accumulation has been observed on some roadways; however, no flooding has been reported.

🚗 Drivers should exercise increased caution and adjust driving habits for wet-weather conditions:

✅ Reduce speeds (typically 10 kph below the posted speed limit)
✅ Increase following distances
✅ Allow additional travel time
✅ Use headlights when visibility is reduced
✅ Watch for standing water and changing road conditions

Weather conditions can change rapidly as Typhoon Jangmi continues to affect the region. Motorists should remain alert and prepared for additional rainfall throughout the day.

Please continue to monitor official USAG Japan communications, Alert! notifications and guidance from your chain of command or supervisor for the latest updates.

Safe and Sound Week is in full swing here at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Japan Engineer District (JED)!

With five full days of safety-focused briefings, hands-on training, and enough learning material to fill a fire extinguisher, the JED team is becoming even better prepared to handle potential emergencies both in and out of the workplace.

Today, the District welcomed two special presenters from United States Army Garrison Japan's Fire Department, who spoke to a packed conference room about the importance of fire safety and the procedures for identifying, containing, and, in the event of an emergency, evacuating from a fire-related incident.

Our team members also had the opportunity to practice extinguishing digital fires using a training extinguisher equipped with a laser receiver, which provided immediate feedback on proper firefighting techniques.

Safe and Sound Week continues through June 5.
