According to a post on the official page of the Ministry of Health and Women's Rights of São Tomé and Príncipe dated March 11, 2024, talks were held between the Japanese team from JICA, the International Cooperation Agency, and the multi-departmental team of the Ministry of Health and Women's Rights. The meeting took place on March 6 and was a great opportunity to strengthen cooperation and exchange knowledge. It is expected that future partnerships between the two entities will lead to concrete initiatives that will contribute to the improvement of healthcare services, in particular to maternal and infant care and appropriate solid waste management.
The aim of the exchange was to arrange training in the management, maintenance of medical equipment, maternal and child healthcare, and solid waste, all of which are crucial for strengthening the healthcare system and promoting the well-being of the people.
These courses will have a significant impact on the community, improving the quality of the healthcare services offered and efficient management of the available resources.
JICA is the Japanese Government Agency in charge of implementing Official Development Assistance (ODA), that supports the growth and socio-economic stability of developing countries with the aim to contribute to building peace and development of international society. It was established as an Incorporated Administrative Agency under the Incorporated Administrative Agency Act - Japan International Cooperation Agency (Act No. 136, 2002), with the aim to contribute toward the promotion of international cooperation as well as the healthy development of both Japanese and global economies by supporting the socio-economic development, recovery or the economic stability of developing regions.

O encontro entre a equipa japonesa da JICA, Agência Internacional de Cooperação, e a equipa multidepartamental do Ministério da Saúde e Direitos da Mulher que se realizou no passado dia 6 de Março, foi uma oportunidade valiosa para promover a cooperação e o intercâmbio de conhecimentos, e espera-se que esta parceria entre a JICA e o Ministério da Saúde e Direitos da Mulher resulte em iniciativas concretas que contribuam para a melhoria dos serviços de saúde, especialmente no que diz respeito ao cuidado materno e infantil e à gestão adequada de resíduos sólidos
Este encontro teve como objectivo de viabilizar formações na área de gerenciamento e manutenção de equipamentos médicos, saúde materno e infantil, e resíduos sólidos é crucial para fortalecer o sistema de saúde e promover o bem-estar da população.
Estas formações podem resultar em benefícios significativos para a comunidade, melhorando a qualidade dos serviços de saúde prestados e a gestão eficiente dos recursos disponíveis.
