Recently, CFAS held a memorial ceremony honoring the 53 American Prisoners of War (POW) and 14 Japanese laborers who died during the construction of the Soto Dam during World War II. The ceremony served as a reminder of the sacrafices made and the importance of preserving their legacy.

CFAS has set Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) 4 as a precautionary measure for Tropical Storm 06W (JANGMI) currently located east of the Philippines. Destructive winds (>50 kts) are possible within 72 hours. The closest point of approach (CPA) to Sasebo forecast for the storm is 183 NM (211 mi / 339 km) to the southeast in the afternoon on Tuesday, 2 June.
