BEATE SIROTA GORDON AWARD 2026

Projekteinreichungen auf sirotaaward.at – jetzt!

Der Beate-Sirota-Gordon-Award würdigt die Leistungen österreichischer Kunstschaffender mit einem Preisgeld von € 6.000,- für die Umsetzung eines neuen künstlerischen oder kulturellen Projekts in Japan.

Der Preis wird jährlich am Internationalen Frauentag (8. März) verliehen und unterstützt insbesondere die Arbeit junger und aufstrebender Kunstschaffender, die sich mit der Rolle der Frau im Kontext des 21. Jahrhunderts befassen.

Projektvorschläge können bis zum 23. Jänner 2026 eingereicht werden.

オーストリア文化フォーラム東京が主催するベアテ・シロタ・ゴードン賞は、ジェンダー平等と女性の権利の分野におけるオーストリア人またはオーストリアを拠点とするアーティストの功績を称え、日本における新しい芸術的または文化的プロジェクトの創作に対し、賞金6,000ユーロを授与するものです。

毎年国際女性デー（3月）に授与されるこの賞は、21世紀における女性の役割と男女共同参画を追求する若手アーティストの活動を支援することに特に重点を置いています。

The Beate Sirota Gordon Award recognizes the accomplishments of an Austrian or Austria-based artist by granting a prize money of EUR 6,000.- for the implementation of a new artistic or cultural project in Japan, sponsored by the Austrian Cultural Forum Tokyo.

Given out yearly on International Women’s Day (March 8), the Award focuses on supporting the work of young and emerging artists who explore the role of women and gender in the context of the 21st century.

エヴァ・ペトリッチによる、映像、音、そしてリサイクルされたレース編みを利用したインスタレーション《セカンド・スカイ・コレクティブ・ドリーム》が、開催中のBIWAKOビエンナーレまちや倶楽部に展示されています。彼女のパフォーマンスは同ビエンナーレのオープニングを飾りました。

クラウディア・ラルヒャーによるインスタレーション“AI and the Art of Historical Reinterpretation - Filling Gender Bias Gaps”も、西川庄六別邸に展示されています。これは女性の権利およびジェンダー平等の分野における文化的プロジェクトを顕彰するベアテ・シロタ・ゴードン賞2024の受賞プロジェクトです。

The installation „Second Sky Collective Dream” by Vienna-based artist Eva Petrič, which combines video, sound, and recycled lacework, is currently on display at Machiya Club, one of the venues of the ongoing . Her performance marked the opening of the Biennale.

The installation “AI and the Art of Historical Reinterpretation – Filling Gender Bias Gaps” by Austrian artist is exhibited at Nishikawa Shoroku Second House. This work is the winning project of the Beate Sirota Gordon Award 2024, which honors cultural initiatives in the fields of women’s rights and gender equality.

GOOD WIFE WISE MOTHER -

Vienna-based artist Elodie Grethen is looking for Japanese mothers with a baby or toddler to participate in the art project “Good Wife, Wise Mother”. The project explores the realities of motherhood in Japan through textile art, audio installations, and photo essays.

Participation formats
- Interviews and photo sessions (February 2026)
- and/or one week of documenting care work
- Anonymous participation possible

戸定邸・松雲亭・戸定が丘歴史公園・松戸中央公園・松戸市内各所

本年の「科学と芸術の丘」に、ウィーン在住のAnca Benera & Arnold EstefánとPavel Brăilaによる作品Floral Whispersが展示されます。植物の減少と生態系の崩壊が世界各地で深刻化していることへの問題提起として、ミツバチとともに蜜蝋でレコードを制作。繊細で、再生できる回数が限られているこのレコードは、針を落とすたびに素材の「記憶」が削られ、やがて静寂へと消えゆきます。

オーストリア外務省の公募Imagine Climate Dignity の受賞プロジェクトです。

Matsudo International Science Art Festival 2025

24 - 26 October 2025

At this year’s Matsudo International Science Art Festival, “Floral Whispers” by Vienna-based artists Anca Benera & Arnold Estefán and Moldovan artist Pavel Brăila will be exhibited. Created together with honey bees, the work features records made of beeswax as a statement on the alarming decline of plant life and the collapse of ecosystems worldwide. These delicate records can only be played a limited number of times; with each drop of the needle, the “memory” of the material is worn away until it fades into silence.

A winning project of the open call “Imagine Climate Dignity“ by the Austrian Foreign Ministry.

Matsudo International Science Art Festival 2025

24. – 26. Oktober 2025

Beim diesjährigen Matsudo International Science Art Festival wird das Werk „Floral Whispers“ der in Wien lebenden Künstler Anca Benera & Arnold Estefán sowie des moldauischen Künstlers Pavel Brăila präsentiert. Das gemeinsam mit Honigbienen geschaffene Werk besteht aus Schallplatten aus Bienenwachs und thematisiert den alarmierenden Rückgang der Pflanzenwelt sowie den Zusammenbruch von Ökosystemen weltweit. Diese empfindlichen Schallplatten können nur eine begrenzte Anzahl von Malen abgespielt werden; mit jedem Aufsetzen der Nadel wird das „Gedächtnis“ des Materials abgetragen, bis es schließlich in die Stille übergeht.

Ein siegreiches Projekt des Open Calls „Imagine Climate Dignity“ des Österreichischen Außenministeriums.

ウィーン出身のアーティストによる、手縫いの袈裟の展覧会。日本の織物と、植物や錆を用いたヨーロッパの染色技術を組み合わせた。アーティストは、彼女のインスピレーションの源泉のひとつである『陰影礼賛』を著した谷崎潤一郎の没後60年に合わせ、彼の墓所である京都・法然院での個展に向け、その哲学に連鎖する袈裟を創作した。

An exhibition of hand-sewn „KESA” (Buddhist robes) by an artist from Vienna, Rosemarie Gabathuler. The works combine Japanese textiles with European dyeing techniques using plants and rust. To mark the 60th anniversary of the death of Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, author of “In Praise of Shadows” —one of her sources of inspiration—the artist created robes for the exhibition at Hōnen-in Temple in Kyoto, where he is buried, in resonance with his philosophy.

Eine Ausstellung handgenähter „KESA“ (buddhistischer Gewänder) der Wiener Künstlerin Rosemarie Gabathuler. Die Werke verbinden japanische Textilien mit europäischen Färbetechniken unter Verwendung von Pflanzen und Rost. Anlässlich des 60. Todestages von Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, dem Autor von „Lob des Schattens“ – einer ihrer Inspirationsquellen –, schuf die Künstlerin für die Ausstellung im Hōnen-in-Tempel in Kyōto, wo er begraben liegt, Gewänder, die mit seiner Philosophie in Resonanz treten.

ウィーン出身のアナトル・ステルズハマーは、2024年11月より益子陶芸国際協会(MPIA)の留学生制度で益子町の陶芸家松崎健氏のもとで陶芸を学んだ。同展ではその成果として、花器や酒器、食器など約120点を発表する。

Viennese artist Anatol Stelzhammer has been studying pottery under pottery master Ken Matsuzaki in Mashiko since November 2024 through the Mashiko Pottery International Association (MPIA) student program. In this exhibition, he will present about 120 works, including flower vases, sake vessels, and tableware, as the outcome of his studies.

オーストリアのアーティスト、クラウディア・ラルヒャー Claudia Larcher は、第11回BIWAKOビエンナーレ Biwako Biennale に参加、プロジェクト“AI and the Art of Historical Reinterpretation - Filling Gender Bias Gaps”を発表します。

このプロジェクトは、AIで使用される歴史的データに含まれるジェンダー特有のバイアスを排除することを狙いとしています。AIモデルは歴史的データに大きく依存しているため、このプロジェクトではAIを用いての将来の社会変化の予測がどんな結果をもたらすかを検証します。また、倫理的な問題や、AI技術を用いてデータアーカイブを補完・書き換え・再解釈する可能性についても問いかけます。プロジェクトでは、AIによって生成された「歴史的イメージ」で、歴史の空白を埋めることを提案しています。

クラウディア・ラルヒャーは、女性の権利およびジェンダー平等の分野における文化的プロジェクトを顕彰するベアテ・シロタ・ゴードン賞2024の受賞者です。

Austrian artist participates in the 11th edition of the with her project “AI and the Art of Historical Reinterpretation – Filling Gender Bias Gaps”.

A key focus of this project is the elimination of gender-specific biases in historical datasets used by AI. Since AI models heavily rely on historical data, the project examines the consequences of using AI to predict future societal changes. It raises questions about ethics and the possibilities of complementing, rewriting, and reinterpreting data archives using AI technology.

Claudia Larcher won the Beate Sirota Gordon Award 2024, honoring cultural projects in the field of women‘s rights and gender equality.

Anliegen dieses Projekts ist die Beseitigung geschlechtsspezifischer Vorurteile in historischen Datensätzen, die von KI verwendet werden. Die Künstlerin wirft ethische Fragen auf und thematisiert die Möglichkeiten, Datenarchive mithilfe von KI-Technologie zu ergänzen, umzuschreiben und neu zu interpretieren.

Claudia Larcher ist Gewinnerin des Beate Sirota Gordon Awards 2024, der kulturelle Projekte in den Bereichen Frauenrechte und Geschlechtergerechtigkeit auszeichnet.
