On 16 March 2024, Jamaica and Japan 🇯🇲🇯🇵 proudly celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations. Earlier this year, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith JP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, undertook her first Official Working Visit to Japan from 06–11 February 2024 to mark this milestone year in the J-J Partnership. The programme included:

🔘 A meeting between Foreign Minister Johnson Smith and her Japanese counterpart H.E. Yoko Kamikawa. During the Jamaica-Japan Foreign Minister’s meeting, both officials signed and exchanged notes concerning Japan’s grant aid of 1.2 billion to provide a fisheries and marine research vessel to Jamaica.

🔘 Community meeting at the Embassy of Jamaica where the Minister engaged with members of the Jamaican Diaspora in Japan.

🔘 Meetings with several important partners, among them the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, the Association for the Promotion of International Cooperation, the Japan-CARICOM Parliamentary Friendship League, and the Governor of Tottori Prefecture – sister city of Westmoreland Parish in Jamaica.

🔘 Courtesy calls with Japanese companies doing business with Jamaica namely, the Association of Japanese Importers of Jamaican Coffee, Marubeni Corporation, Auto Terminal (ATJ) Japan Ltd. as well as the General Incorporated Association of West Indian Sea Island Cotton.

🔘 A reception jointly hosted by the Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and Japan as well as the 2024 Japan-CARICOM Friendship Year.
