Jamaican Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Shorna-Kay Richards, attended the premiere at the kind invitation of Towa Pictures (Paramount Pictures, Japan) and delivered the opening message to the press and attendees before the screening held at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya.

The recorded the best opening performance in Asia, attracting 100,000 viewers in just 5 days of its official release on 17 May and grossing over 150 million yen.

Florida-based Jamaican tenor and cultural ambassador, Steve Higgins, spread his wings to Japan in May to perform in Tokyo and Tottori Prefecture.

The folk concerts were jointly organized by the Embassy of Jamaica and Japan’s Min-On Concert Association with the support of the Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Tottori Prefectural Government.

The concerts are part of this year’s celebratory activities to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Jamaica. To bring the J-J Partnership to life, Higgins performed with Japan’s musical talents—Ms. Yukari Kiyono, soprano and Mr. Mitsuru Hirose, pianist—as well as the students of Tottori's Iwami Senior High School's Blue Martin Jazz Orchestra.

On 16 March 2024, Jamaica and Japan 🇯🇲🇯🇵 proudly celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations. Earlier this year, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith JP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, undertook her first Official Working Visit to Japan from 06–11 February 2024 to mark this milestone year in the J-J Partnership. The programme included:

🔘 A meeting between Foreign Minister Johnson Smith and her Japanese counterpart H.E. Yoko Kamikawa. During the Jamaica-Japan Foreign Minister’s meeting, both officials signed and exchanged notes concerning Japan’s grant aid of 1.2 billion to provide a fisheries and marine research vessel to Jamaica.

🔘 Community meeting at the Embassy of Jamaica where the Minister engaged with members of the Jamaican Diaspora in Japan.

🔘 Meetings with several important partners, among them the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, the Association for the Promotion of International Cooperation, the Japan-CARICOM Parliamentary Friendship League, and the Governor of Tottori Prefecture – sister city of Westmoreland Parish in Jamaica.

The Embassy of Jamaica recently partnered with RUDDER LTD. to host a launch event and seminar where we introduced some thirty (30) bartenders from across Japan to the Worthy Park products.
:.
Worthy Park Estate won the “Rum Producer of the Year” Award at the 2023 International Wine & Spirit Competition held in October – becoming the first Jamaican distillery to win the award. This accolade added even greater merit to the quality of Worthy Park’s products as Rudder Ltd. presented on the brand and its value as well as the company’s sustainable operations.
