: It was a wonderful evening of celebration at the Tokyo American Club's premiere gala event “Embassy Nights - One Love”, showcasing Jamaica and the Caribbean as we continue to mark the Jamaica-Japan 60th anniversary and the Japan-CARICOM Friendship Year in 2024.

Reggae music has found a home in the hearts of the Japanese people and veteran Jamaican Reggae singer in Japan, Dave Mcanuff, who has been living in Japan for 35 years, had guests dancing all evening.

Jamaican-Japanese Chef Angelee Koshiishi () served up a delectable menu of Jamaican dishes with Japanese and French influences. A perfect pairing to go with the rum cocktails from RUDDER LTD., the distributor of Worthy Park Estate rums in Japan.

The message also highlights the multidimensional J-J Partnership as Jamaica and Japan celebrate 60 fruitful years of diplomatic relations in 2024.

: On Tuesday, 14 May 2024, the "Bob Marley: One Love" biopic premiered in Japan which saw producer, Ziggy Marley; director, Reinaldo Marcus Green; and lead actor, Kingsley Ben-Adir visiting Tokyo for the event.

Jamaican Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Shorna-Kay Richards, attended the premiere at the kind invitation of Towa Pictures (Paramount Pictures, Japan) and delivered the opening message to the press and attendees before the screening held at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya.

The recorded the best opening performance in Asia, attracting 100,000 viewers in just 5 days of its official release on 17 May and grossing over 150 million yen.

Other promotional activities around the movie release in Japan included a pop-up store by Universal Music Japan at its Harajuku location.

Florida-based Jamaican tenor and cultural ambassador, Steve Higgins, spread his wings to Japan in May to perform in Tokyo and Tottori Prefecture.

The folk concerts were jointly organized by the Embassy of Jamaica and Japan’s Min-On Concert Association with the support of the Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Tottori Prefectural Government.

The concerts are part of this year’s celebratory activities to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Jamaica. To bring the J-J Partnership to life, Higgins performed with Japan’s musical talents—Ms. Yukari Kiyono, soprano and Mr. Mitsuru Hirose, pianist—as well as the students of Tottori's Iwami Senior High School's Blue Martin Jazz Orchestra.

In early May, Grammy-nominated Jamaican jazz pianist Monty Alexander, OJ visited Tokyo where he performed a series of live shows at the BLUE NOTE TOKYO. The shows were part of his「80th Birthday Nights' Celebration」as well as to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and Japan in 2024.

On 16 March 2024, Jamaica and Japan 🇯🇲🇯🇵 proudly celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations. Earlier this year, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith JP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, undertook her first Official Working Visit to Japan from 06–11 February 2024 to mark this milestone year in the J-J Partnership. The programme included:

🔘 A meeting between Foreign Minister Johnson Smith and her Japanese counterpart H.E. Yoko Kamikawa. During the Jamaica-Japan Foreign Minister’s meeting, both officials signed and exchanged notes concerning Japan’s grant aid of 1.2 billion to provide a fisheries and marine research vessel to Jamaica.

🔘 Community meeting at the Embassy of Jamaica where the Minister engaged with members of the Jamaican Diaspora in Japan.

🔘 Meetings with several important partners, among them the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, the Association for the Promotion of International Cooperation, the Japan-CARICOM Parliamentary Friendship League, and the Governor of Tottori Prefecture – sister city of Westmoreland Parish in Jamaica.

🔘 Courtesy calls with Japanese companies doing business with Jamaica namely, the Association of Japanese Importers of Jamaican Coffee, Marubeni Corporation, Auto Terminal (ATJ) Japan Ltd. as well as the General Incorporated Association of West Indian Sea Island Cotton.

09 January 2024 marks the 6th anniversary of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee ( ) Day which is being celebrated under the theme “Brewed Perfection”.

This important day—initiated by the Association of Japanese Importers of Jamaican Coffee (AJIJC) in 2019—commemorates the date of the first largest shipment of Jamaican Coffee to Japan on 09 January 1967.

Jamaican Ambassador Shorna-Kay Richards shared a message in a special supplement published by The Jamaica Observer to highlight the significance of this longstanding trade and development partnership between Jamaica and Japan.

Christmastime is special for Jamaicans at home & abroad and the Embassy of Jamaica in Tokyo was happy to welcome the Jamaican community in Japan for our end of year gathering.

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon over Jamaican food, sorrel and fruit cake. We also had fun playing dominoes, singing carols & reading from the Jamaican patois Bible!

Jamaica’s oldest rum distillery, Worthy Park Estate, has found a distribution company (RUDDER LTD.) to sell its rums in the Japanese market.

The Embassy of Jamaica recently partnered with RUDDER LTD. to host a launch event and seminar where we introduced some thirty (30) bartenders from across Japan to the Worthy Park products.

Worthy Park Estate won the “Rum Producer of the Year” Award at the 2023 International Wine & Spirit Competition held in October – becoming the first Jamaican distillery to win the award. This accolade added even greater merit to the quality of Worthy Park’s products as Rudder Ltd. presented on the brand and its value as well as the company’s sustainable operations.
