The Embassy was pleased to receive Ambassador SHIMMI Jun, Commissioner of the International Horticultural EXPO 2027, Yokohama Japan, who paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Moi Lemoshira, on Monday, 14th September, 2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the upcoming International Horticultural EXPO 2027 in Yokohama (GREENEXPO2027). The Ambassadors concurred that the Expo presents an opportunity for showcasing Kenya’s rich horticultural sector and its commitment to sustainable development. Amb Lemoshira noted that participation will contribute to ongoing efforts to promote Kenya's agricultural exports which will further strengthen bilateral cooperation. He said that Kenya will hold various activation events during the Kenya Week in May, 2027 including promotion of MagicalKenya and Kenyan flowers.

The Embassy looks forward to continued collaboration with the EXPO2027 organizers for the realization of a high-impact participation by Kenya and a successful global event.

Congratulations to the 6 Kenyans in the 2026 Graduate Class of the National Graduate Institute of Policy Studies (GRIPS) Japan.

The 2026 Class had 186 graduates from 52 countries who were recipients of Japanese scholarships supporting capacity building in selected partner countries.. The attained varied Masters programs in development policy and leadership fields.

Special recognition is to Mr. Dahir Yahya Aden who successfully developed a feasible Project from his Thesis targeting water disaster response using traditional temporary housing designs

On Thursday, 10th September 2026, Amb. Arthur Andambi, Deputy Head of Mission, and Mr. David Yaa, First Secretary, received Mr. Masaaki Kadoya and Ms. Fumiko Adachi from Soka University who came to bid farewell to Amb. Andambi, following his scheduled return to Nairobi. The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss ways to continue promoting Swahili language in Japan.

The Embassy appreciates the continued interest and efforts of Mr. Kadoya and Ms. Adachi towards promoting Swahili in Japan and looks forward to supporting initiatives that bring the Swahili language and its rich cultural heritage closer to the Japanese audience.

On Wednesday, 9th September 2026, Ambassador Moi Lemoshira received Hon. Akira Koiso, Senior Advisor of the Liberal Democratic Party of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly who was accompanied by Mr. Hirofumi Watabe, Director of Tama Zoological Park and Mr. Takashi Shigeno, Manager of Bureau of construction, Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The purpose of the visit was to formally invite the Embassy to participate in this year’s Tokyo Zoo Africa Fair XII, scheduled to take place from 22nd to 23rd November 2026 at the Tokyo Zoological Park.

The Tokyo Zoo’s Africa Fair XII event will provide a platform for the Embassy to showcase Kenya’s diverse heritage including culture and ourism attractions to the Japanese audience.

The Embassy looks forward to working with the Tokyo Zoological Park Society and other relevant partners towards a successful Africa Fair and to exploring further opportunities to promote Kenya in Japan.

On Thursday, September 3rd 2026, Ambassador Moi Lemoshira attended at the 9th Japan Construction International Awards Ceremony in Japan, which recognised outstanding overseas infrastructure projects and initiatives involving Japanese construction companies.

Two projects with relevance to Kenya were among the recognised initiatives:

(i) SPEC Company Limited, which received recognition under the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) Category for its overseas construction activities.

(ii) Daiken, recognised under the Pioneering Activity Category for its Japanese-origin rainwater harvesting infrastructure, demonstrating the application of innovative Japanese technology to sustainable water resource management.

The recognition of Kenya-related projects in the awards underscores the growing Kenya-Japan partnership in infrastructure development, technology transfer and sustainable solutions.

The Embassy congratulates the award recipients and appreciates the Government of Japan, through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), for its continued support in strengthening cooperation between Kenya and Japan in the construction and infrastructure sectors.

On 8th September 2026, the Embassy hosted nine newly arrived Kenyan students under the JDS Program (Japan Program for Human Resource Development Scholarship) to welcome them to Japan and wish success in their studies.

The Embassy also engaged with Kenyan students from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) who are expected to graduate on 11th September 2026 and return to Kenya to apply their knowledge and skills towards national development.

Ambassador Moi Lemoshira urged the new students to seize the opportunity to excel in their respective expertise which would be essential in national development. He congratulated the GRIPS graduates and thanked them for being good ambassadors of Kenya.

The engagements highlighted the importance of education and capacity building as pillars of Kenya - Japan relations.

Ambassador Moi Lemoshira paid a courtesy call to Ambassador Keiichi HARA, Chief of Protocol of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Amb. Lemoshira congratulated the new Chief of Protocol and availed the co-operation of the Kenya Embassy.

The two appreciated the strong relations between Kenya and Japan. They noted the strategic relevance of the relations in advancing peace, security and sustainable development.

On 4th September 2026, the Embassy was pleased to host a group from Daystar University, who are currently in Japan on an educational tour. The group led by Dr. Jane Kimathi Dean of School of Science, Engineering and Health comprised 5 faculty members and 41 of the 82 students who are participating in the visit.

The delegation was received by Ambassador Moi Lemoshira, accompanied by Embassy staff. The visit provided an opportunity for the students to engage with the Embassy and gain insights into Kenya-Japan relations, diplomacy, international cooperation, and the role of the Embassy in promoting Kenya’s interests in Japan.

Amb. Lemoshira challenged the students to learn from Japanese culture such as strong mindset to better achieve their aspirations. He urged them to take advantage of their visit to explore opportunities for studying in Japan.

The Embassy appreciates Daystar University for facilitating the educational tour and looks forward to continued engagement with Kenyan institutions of higher learning in strengthening education diplomacy.
