上高地は、3,000メートル級の山々が連なる北アルプスの山深くに開けた標高約1,500メートルの広い谷で、わが国屈指の山岳景勝地として、中部山岳国立公園に指定されるとともに、国の特別名勝・特別天然記念物にも指定されています。近代アルピニズムの発展の中心地として、多くのアルピニストを魅了する槍穂高連峰への登山基地ともなっています。

Kamikochi is a grand valley at the elevation of 1,500 meters formed deep in the Northern Japan Alps, where mountains over 3,000 meters high range. Renowned in Japan for its beautiful mountainous scenery, it is designated not only as

the Chubu Sangaku National Park but also as a special place of scenic beauty and a special natural monument in Japan. As a center of the development of modern mountaineering, it is the climbing base to Yari-Hotaka Mountain Range, which attracts countless alpinists.
