⛈Reliable information is essential for climate adaptation. As climate extremes intensify in South Asia, effective adaptation increasingly relies on high-quality data for decision making.

⛈ Dr-Pir Shaukat Ali from Pakistan's Global Change Impact Studies Centre and his project team developed high-resolution temperature and precipitation datasets for Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. Their approach involved 'downscaling', the process of localising and fine-tuning global data to a regional level.

APN supported research that improved local-scale climate extremes information for South Asia to guide risk reduction, health, and water planning.

☀️How do extreme temperatures threaten health in Asia-Pacific cities? As hot days get hotter and cold days get colder, there is an urgent need for local governments to implement measures that address weather-related health risks.

☀️Dr Cunrui Huang from Tsinghua University's Vanke School of Public Health and his project team drew upon evidence from four countries: Bangladesh, China, Thailand and Vietnam. Using their cross-country analysis, the team crafts concrete guidance that cities can follow, from heat-health warning systems to coordination strategies.

APN project involving Bangladesh, China, Thailand, and Vietnam assessed extreme-heat health risks and developed local options to reduce heat impacts.

🌴What happens when staying in place is no longer the safest option? In many Pacific Island communities, climate change is reshaping daily life—threatening homes, land, and livelihoods. But rather than permanent relocation, many families are adapting through small, flexible movements: shifting livestock and assets, or temporarily sending family members away to earn income and return with new skills.

🌴Dr Andreas Neef from Griffith University and his project team take a closer look at how these micro-mobilities and circular migration are emerging as important adaptation strategies in Fiji and Samoa—and what this means for climate risk, resilience and gender dynamics.

APN is supporting research in Fiji and Samoa on how micro-mobilities and circular migration shape gendered climate risks and staying in place.

The Asia Science Mission (ASM) invites experts to share insights on the region’s most pressing sustainability challenges and opportunities.

Your input will help:
• Identify critical, shared sustainability challenges requiring coordinated, transdisciplinary responses;
• Analyse key data and coordination gaps across regional and national efforts and
• Identify priority interventions where ASM can deliver the greatest impact.

Your input will directly inform the design and strategic direction of ASM as a coordinated, mission-driven initiative.

We would greatly appreciate your participation and encourage you to share this opportunity within your networks.

ASM is Asia’s first mission-oriented, multi-country platform accelerating resilience and sustainability through science-policy-community partnerships. It is led by Future Earth Asia, supported by the International Science Council Asia-Pacific, and implemented with regional partners including 総合地球環境学研究所(地球研 / RIHN, Research Institute for Humanity and Nature), Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research and The Australian National University.
