今日はあかしや保育園を訪問しました。今年度の初めての訪問でした！先月年長のクラスを見学した時、すでにみんなに会っていましたが、今回また会えることを楽しみにしていました。

今日のレッスンのテーマは、イースターというアメリカや欧米諸国の祝日についてでした。それらの国では卵探しゲームをしたり、卵を飾ったり、ウサギの形のお菓子を食べたり、家族と時間を過ごしたりします。

園児たちは「うさぎ」、「卵」、「ひよこ」などの英単語を学んで、その後ゲームをしました。部屋の中に隠されたプラスチック卵を探すリレーゲームや、イースターをテーマにした「だるまさんがころんだ」をしました。

次に、「If You’re Happy, Happy, Happy」という英語の歌を歌いました。みんなにとってこの歌は初めてでしたが、とても上手に踊って歌ってくれました！子供たちはすでに英語を楽しんでいるようでした。

Monday, April 27th,

Today I went to Akashiya nursery school for a visit. It was the first visit of the school year! I met everyone last month when they joined the older class, but I was looking forward to meeting everyone again today.

The theme of today’s lesson was Easter, a holiday often celebrated in America and other countries. People celebrate by doing Easter egg hunts, decorating eggs, eating bunny-shaped candy, and spending time with family.

We learned some new vocabulary, like “bunny”, “egg”, and “chick”, and then played some games. We did an Easter egg scavenger hunt relay, where everyone would look for plastic eggs hidden around the room. Then we played an Easter version of “Red Light, Green Light”.

We also sang an English song, “If You’re Happy Happy Happy”. Even though it was the first time hearing it, everyone danced and sang very well! Some kids are already comfortable with English!

今日は、新年度に入って初めての英語レッスンをするために、志文保育園を訪問しました！新しく年長になったみんなに会えるのを楽しみにしていました。

今日は初めてのレッスンだったので、まずは自己紹介をして、その後じゃんけん大会ゲームのやり方を教えました。私が何を出すか英語でヒントを言って、みんなで一緒にじゃんけんをします。ヒントをよく聞けば勝てるゲームです！毎回このゲームをしますので、これからたくさん練習していきましょう。

次に4月ということで、イースターについてのレッスンをしました。私の母国であるアメリカでは、イースターを祝う人が多いです。もともとキリスト教の祝日ですが、春のお祝いという意味もあります！「卵」、「バスケット」、「うさぎ」などの英単語を学んだり、卵探しリレーゲームをしました。みんなとても楽しそうにしてくれました！

Today I visited Shibun nursery school, for the first English lesson of the new school year! I was looking forward to meeting all the new students.

Since today was the first time, I introduced myself and then taught everyone how to play “rock-paper-scissors tournament”. I give a hint of what I will do, in English, and then we all do rock-paper-scissors at the same time. If you listen to my hint, you will win! We will play this game every month so everyone will get a lot of practice.

Since it’s April, we also talked about Easter. Many people celebrate Easter in America, where I’m from. It is a Christian holiday, but it can also celebrate spring! We learned some Easter words, like “egg”, “basket”, and “bunny”, and then did an egg hunt relay race. Everyone looked like they had fun!

Today I visited Hinode nursery school! It’s the first visit of the school year, so I got to meet the new students in the younger class. As expected, everyone was a little shy at first. This is probably their first English class after all. But I think everyone had fun doing games! I hope from now on we can have fun learning English together.

The theme of today’s lesson is Easter. Many people celebrate Easter in America, where I’m from. It is a Christian holiday, but it can also celebrate spring! Today we learned some new vocabulary words like “chick”, “bunny”, “chocolate”, and “egg”, and then did an egg hunt game. Easter egg hunts are a very popular activity for Easter celebrations. 今回のレッスンでは、最後のじゃんけん大会をしました。リスニング力を練習するためにする毎回の活動です。みんなとても上手くできました！英語力が大きく上達したことを実感しています。去年の4月は、まだシャイで英語を触れるのが初めての子供たちが多かったと思いますが、この一年間で積極的に英語で挨拶してくれようになり、たくさんの英単語も覚えましたね！

ハエたたきゲームや、大人気の「What Time is it, Mr. Bear?」という鬼ごっこゲームする時間がありました。このゲームは、保育園で一緒に遊ぶのはこれで最後ですが、ぜひ小学校で新しい友達に紹介してあげてください！

Today I went to Shibun nursery school for a visit! Today the weather is great, and everyone’s big smiles match! This is the last lesson for the school year, before this year’s class heads to elementary school. I hope everyone is ready for school!

For today’s class we did our last rock-paper-scissors tournament. We did this every time to help practice listening. Everyone did great! I can see how much everyone has grown. Last April, everyone was a little shy and for many of them, it was their first time hearing English. Bunt now, one year later, everyone greets me enthusiastically in English, and they remember so many English words!

We also had time to play the fly-swatter game as well as “What Time is it, Mr. Bear?” a popular tag game. We might not have time to play it again in nursery school, but I hope you can bring it with you to Elementary school and play it with your new friends!

今回は最後のレッスンということで新しい内容を学ばないで、この1年間に勉強した内容を復習しました。いつものじゃんけん大会や、数字を練習するゲーム、そして鬼ごっこゲームをしました。鬼ごっこゲームはやはり大人気ですね！

年長のみんなはこれから小学校に進学して、お別れになるので、3月はいつも少し寂しく感じます。でも、今年度は一緒に楽しい時間を過ごしてくれてありがとうございました！みんなの英語力や自信の成長を見ることができて、とても嬉しかったです。そして、来月から新しい年長のみんなに会えるのを楽しみにしています！

Today I visited Akashiya nursery school! Today is the last lesson of the school year. The younger class, who will start learning English next month, also joined.

Since today is the last lesson we didn’t learn anything new and instead did reviewed some materials we learned before. We did the rock-paper-scissors tournament as usual, then a game to practice numbers, and a tag game! The tag game is always popular with everyone.

March is always a little sad because it’s the last time I get to see everyone before they head to elementary school. But thank you for making this a fun year! It was great to see how much everyone’s English ability and confidence grows over the year. I’m looking forward to getting to know the new class next month!

今日のレッスン内容は、今年勉強したことの復習でした。「Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes」の歌を歌ったり、数字を練習するためにハエたたきゲームをしたり、「What Time is it, Mr. Bear?」のゲームをしたりしました。このゲームは保育園でとても人気です。単純な鬼ごっこゲームですが、みんなはとても喜んでいるように見えますね！またできて良かったと思います。

年中のみんなは来月から年長のクラスになりますので、また会えます。でも年長のみんなが、新しい英語を楽しんで勉強できることを願っています！

Today I went to Hinode nursery school for a visit! It’s already March, so this is the last lesson of the school year. I’m sad to see the older class go, but I think everyone will have a great time in elementary school. Good luck!

For today’s lesson we did review of things we learned this year. We did the song “Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes”, played the flyswatter game to practice numbers, and then played “What Time is it, Mr. Bear?” This game is a nursery school favorite. It’s a simple tag game, but everyone enjoys it so much! I’m happy that we had time to do it again.

I’ll see the younger class again starting next month, since they will graduate to the older class. But to the older class, I hope you have fun learning lots of new English!

Today I visited Shibun nursery school for a visit! Even though Valentine’s Day has already passed, we still did a lesson for it. We learned some new vocabulary words and played some games. One game we did was bingo. I felt like I really got to see everyone’s growth through this year! Everyone quickly understood the instructions and the rules of the game. It’s a lot of growth from the beginning of the year, when everyone was still not used to English class. After today, I’m confident that everyone can succeed in elementary school!

This was my last Valentine’s Day lesson. Next month we will do some lesson review, and then it’s off to elementary school! I’m looking forward to a fun last class.

今日は幌向小学校を訪問しました！2年生にアメリカの食文化について教えました。見たことのない物を見るみんなの反応を見るのが楽しいです。私がアメリカ人は箸を使わないと言った時、みんなが驚いていて面白かったです！

みんなはとても歓迎してくれて、中休みに一緒に喋ることができて楽しかったです。英語で話しをしてみたかった子供が何人もいました！小学生は3年生から正式に英語を勉強し始めるので、楽しく勉強できると願っています！

Friday, February 20th

Today I went to Horomui Elementary School for a visit! I talked about American food culture with the 2nd graders. It’s always interesting to see their reactions to all the things they’ve never seen before. It was funny when everyone was surprised when I said that Americans don’t use chopsticks!

Everyone was very friendly and I had a good time talking during the breaktime. A lot of kids wanted to try speaking English with me! Elementary schoolers start learning English officially in 3rd grade, so I hope everyone has fun!

This was my last school visit. Thank you everyone for listening to my presentations over the past three years. I hope you could learn a little about a different culture! I hope you can have another visit with the new CIR next year!

日本とアメリカのバレンタインデーの伝統はとても違うことを知っていますか？アメリカでは、必ずチョコレートをあげるわけではありません。バラやぬいぐるみ、カードなど、他のプレゼントも人気です！さらに、３月にホワイトデーはありません。バレンタインデーは西洋の祝いですが、国によって祝い方が違うのはとても面白いですね！

Today I visited Akashiya nursery school! First, we did our usual rock-paper-scissors tournament, and then I did a Valentine’s Day lesson. We learned some words like “chocolate”, “flower”, “rose”, “present”, “cupid”, and “heart”. Then we played some games to practice. We did bingo and 4 corners. Everyone did really well today!

Did you know that Valentine’s traditions in Japan and America are very different? In America we don’t always give chocolate to people. Other gifts like roses, stuffed animals, and cards are very popular! We also don’t have White Day in March. Even though Valentine’s Day is a western holiday, the way different countries celebrate is very interesting!

Friday, February 6th

Today I went to Hinode nursery school for a visit! We did a lesson for Valentine’s Day. This is one of my favorite lessons, because we play bingo! Bingo is a great game to practice any vocabulary.

You make a grid of about sixteen squares on a piece of paper, and put a picture or vocabulary word in each. Then you call out the words one by one and each kid marks it on their own bingo card. If they get four in a row, they call out “bingo!” The kids have a lot of fun marking the boxes and saying “bingo!”

Today I taught one class with both the older and younger group, so it was very lively! I had a lot of fun running around with everyone.

今日は幌向小学校を訪問しました！アメリカの食文化についてのプレゼンテーションをしました。このレッスンを1年生に教えるのは初めてだったけど、みんなとても元気でした。私の質問にも一生懸命答えてくれて、積極的に交流してくれて嬉しかったです。さらに、「好きな食べ物は何ですか？」や「好きな物は何ですか？」など、私への面白い質問も聞かれました。

授業の後半では、プレゼンテーションに出てきた食べ物の中から、「食べてみたい」と思う物をいくつか選びました。今日は、ニューヨークチーズケーキやニューヨークピザが特に人気でした。みんなの絵も上手でした。いつか、これらの食べ物を実際に食べられるといいですね！

Monday, January 26th

Today I went to Horomui Elementary School for a visit! I did my presentation about American food culture. This was my first time doing this lesson for 1st graders, and they were full of energy! They did their best to answer my questions and interact with me. They also asked me some fun questions, like “what is my favorite food?”, or “what is my favorite thing?”.

For the latter half of class, the kids choose some things they want to try from the foods I talked about in the presentation. Today New York cheesecake and New York style pizza were favorites! Everyone’s drawings were amazing too! I hope you can try some of these foods one day.
