Port Town Yanai
During the Edo period, Yanai was an exotic trading port where goods from all over Japan gathered.
Now 150 years later, did you know there is a secret room in this town—one that only locals have ever seen? Under the condition that its location is never revealed, you can step beyond a “Secret Door” into the newly opened Secret Museum. The entire “White-Walled Street of Yanai” is conceived as a single museum.
Except for the reception area, the exhibition locations are undisclosed—creating a decentralized museum experience where visitors explore the town itself. Inside, art pieces and festival lights from across Japan come together in one place. This unique experience, blending Japanese tradition and art, lets you feel as if you’ve traveled the entire country in just one hour.
(You can even see Aomori’s famous Nebuta festival—right here, just a few dozen kilometers from Iwakuni!)
