【Yumi’s Japan Tips】
Thank you for participating in soccer event Part 2
In the previous article, I expressed my gratitude to all the participants of multicultural exchange sports event “Enjoy Soccer” in the morning and introduced some highlights from the event by using some photos.
This time, I would like to tell you about the afternoon event and express my gratitude to all the participants in this article.
On March 8th (Sun), Reiwa 8, at【Hagusupo】Energy Support Arena, there were many participants. The people of a wide range of ages, from junior high school sutudents to those in their 70s gathered , and enjoyed soccer games.
On that day, about 250 people, including Japanese and foreigners, participated throughout morning and afternoon sessions.
The participants came from a wide variety of countries and regions, including Japan, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and so on. The people who live, work or study in Inuyama city gathered.
This event was held for the purpose of connecting the people from various countries through sports without worrying about the differences of language or culture, and also aimed to provide an opportunity for foreign residents to participate in the local activities as members.
The event was made possible with the cooperation of Inuyama Soccer Association.
And, thanks to all the representatives and leaders of foreign teams(Latin・Master, or Hashizume Mix Club) who gave me a lot of advice and suggestions, I was able to make the event even better.
Additionally, I received a great deal of cooperation from the representatives and leaders of each team. They clearly communicated the purpose and objectives of the event to all the team players.
Thanks to such cooperation, I was able to successfully hold the event without any serious injuries or problems. Thank you so much.
And, the people who have various background participated, the students of a Japanese language school in the city, participants in the Japanese language class at the Inuyama International Exchange Association, the foreign workers in factories and local university and senior high school students and so on.
Despite differences in language and culture, they made efforts to communicate using gestures and smiles and enjoyed interacting each other while playing the games. I was very impressed by that sight.
This time, I made efforts to create an environment where many people could interact naturally. I accepted not only team participants but also individual participants and created mixed teams on the day of the event.
Besides, thanks to the cooperation of the people who helped with Vietnamese, Spanish and Portuguese interpretation and all the foreign volunteers, communication went smoothly.
With various languages being spoken in addition to Japanese, this sports exchange truly demonstrated the unique advantages of being multilingual, and the venue was lively and full of energy from beginning to end.
Many of the foreign players said, “I seldom have a chance to play games as an multicultural team like this, so I wanted more time to play.”
On the other hand, there were so many participants this time, and consequently the time of each game was shortened. So, there may be some players who felt a little unsatisfied.
Taking the requests from the players into consideration, I would like to make efforts to make the next event more fulfilling and extend the bonds formed this time to the next event.
Other participants gave the following comments:
“Today's interaction made me want to practice and play games with the teams from another countries. ”
“I would also like to participate in the citizens' tournament.”
“I'm going back to my home country soon, so it became a wonderful memory that I could take photos with all the team members and the mayor.”
It was very windy and cold during the event, but I could see the participants trying to understand each other here and there, and the venue was filled with a warm atmosphere.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who participated and cooperated.
Inuyama city will continue to promote the development of a multicultural city through sports and exchange.
