Over 20 people. 5 days. And a lot of honest talk about why staying connected has gotten so hard.

Last week we brought together IAF alumni from across the region and beyond for “Staying Connected – The Power of Networks.” Everyone showed up a little tired —from polarization, from disconnection, from just... a lot. So instead of another round of panels, we asked people to actually sit with that.

Turns out the real conversation wasn’t about networking tactics. It was a much simpler question: which values do we liberals love to talk about, and which ones do we actually struggle to live?

Networks don’t grow because people share the same politics. They grow because people are consistent, because you show up, and your behavior matches what you say you believe.

Which value do you find easiest to talk about but hardest to actually live?

ماذا يحدث حين تلتقي السياسة بالواقع؟
في اليوم الثالث من FreeDome: The Architects of the Naumann Region، وجد المشاركون أنفسهم أمام المفاجأة في مسرح الشمس، حيث أحيا فريق Scene Theatre and Drama Club سياساتهم على خشبة المسرح من خلال خمس مسرحيات تفاعلية مؤثرة.
من الإعلام والاقتصاد إلى الابتكار الرقمي، دفع كل عرض المشاركين إلى مساءلة افتراضاتهم، ونقاش الحلول، ورؤية سياساتهم تُختبر في مواجهة الواقع.
بقيادة أحمد سرور، لم يبقَ المشاركون في موقع المتفرج، بل أصبحوا جزءاً من العرض نفسه، يتدخلون ويتحاورون ويُعيدون صياغة الأفكار من خلال الحوار.
لكن الرحلة لم تنتهِ حين أُسدل الستار.
في اليوم الرابع، عادت الفرق إلى مجموعات العمل لاستيعاب ما أكشفه المسرح، ومراجعة مسودات سياساتهم، وتعزيزها من خلال جولة جديدة من التعاون، لتتحول الأفكار الجريئة إلى حلول أكثر واقعية وشمولاً وقابلية للتطبيق.

‏What happens when policy meets reality? 🎭
‏On Day 3 of FreeDome MENA: The Architects of the Naumann Region, participants stepped into the unexpected at Al-Shams Theater, where the Scene Theatre and Drama Club brought their policies to life through five powerful Forum Theatre sketches.
‏From Media & Economy to Digital Innovation, every performance challenged participants to question assumptions, debate solutions, and see firsthand how their policies would work in the real world.
‏Guided by Forum Theatre Joker Ahmad Srour, participants became part of the performance—intervening, discussing, and reshaping ideas through dialogue.
‏But the journey didn’t end when the curtain closed.
‏On Day 4, the teams returned to their working groups to reflect on the theatre experience, revise their draft policies, a

كان اليوم الثاني من FreeDome: Architects of the Naumann Region مخصصًا للتعاون والعمل الجماعي.
انضم المشاركون إلى فرق متعددة التخصصات بناءً على خلفياتهم المهنية، وبدأوا العمل على إعداد مسودات سياسات لمستقبل منطقة ناومان. ومن طرح الأفكار الجريئة، إلى مناقشة الأولويات، وصولًا إلى إيجاد أرضية مشتركة، تعاونت كل مجموعة لتحويل التحديات إلى حلول سياسية عملية.

Five groups. Five sectors. One shared vision. 🌍
Day 2 of FreeDome: Architects of the Naumann Region was all about collaboration.
Participants joined multidisciplinary teams based on their professional backgrounds, rolled up their sleeves, and got to work drafting policies for the future of the Naumann Region. From brainstorming bold ideas to debating priorities and finding common ground, every group worked together to transform challenges into practical policy solutions.
The day wrapped up with each team presenting its draft policy, setting the stage for the next big challenge.
Because every great region starts with great teamwork. 💡

We just wrapped up Summer University 2026 in Marrakesh 🎓
Over three days, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (MENA), the Arab Center for Research, and Cadi Ayyad University brought together academics, policymakers, researchers, and young professionals from Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, and beyond — all under one theme: integrating risk management into public policy.
The program closed with an international conference asking a question the region can’t afford to ignore: what does it actually take to build policy that anticipates crises instead of just reacting to them?
From geopolitical risks to AI, post-conflict recovery to economic resilience — the conversations were real, the exchanges were rich, and the energy in the room was something else. 🤝

Policy doesn’t write itself. On Day 1 of FreeDome: Architects of the Naumann Region, young liberal leaders from across the MENA region got to work. Hania Knio from our partner IFLRY led the policy session, guiding the young leaders through the process of identifying challenges, analyzing stakeholders, and laying the groundwork for real policy change.
