تأسس المركز الوطني للبحث والتطوير في عام 2010 بموجب نظام رقم 72/2010 الصادر بمقتضى المادتين (7) و (11) من قانون المجلس الأعلى للعلوم والتكنولوجيا رقم (30) لسنة1987.
يهدف المركز لتطوير القدرات العلمية التطبيقية للباحثين في مجالات تكنولوجيا الطاقة وتكنولوجيا الحيوية والمياه و الغذاء وبحوث البادية و اي مجالات اخرى ذات اولوية
بحثية في الاردن.
ولتحقيق أهدافه يقوم المركز بالمهام التالية
• التعرف على
القدرات والنشاطات الوطنية والتنسيق فيما بينها وتطويرها في المجالات البحثية في المؤسسات التعليمية والمراكز العلمية المختلفة وبناء قاعدة معلومات لهذه الغاية.
• دعم البحث العلمي التطبيقي وتشجيع الاختراع والابداع في مجالات عمل المركز.
• تشجيع تأسيس شركات منتجة اقتصاديا تقوم على مخرجات البحث والتطوير التي يقوم بها المركز.
• عقد الندوات والمؤتمرات والدورات التدريبية المتخصصة في مجالات البحث والتطوير والمشاركة فيها.
• تنمية الموارد البشرية العاملة في مجالات البحث والتطوير والتعاون مع الخبراء والعلماء والمراكز والمؤسسات والهيئات والمنظمات المحلية والاقليمية والدولية ذات العلاقة.
• بناء شبكات اتصال بحثية بين الباحثين الأردنيين في المملكة ونظرائهم في الخارج في مجالات عمل المركز.

The National Center for Research and Development (NCRD) was established at the end of 2010 in accordance with articles (7) and (11) of the Higher Council for science and Technology Law No. Objective
To develop scientific capabilities in the areas of Energy, Biotechnology, Water, Food & Badia research and any other research area of importance to Jordan. In order to achieve the above objective, NCRD is entitled with the following tasks
• Identification of local capabilities and activities in areas of research areas available at the higher education institutions and research centers in Jordan, and coordinating among them.
• Supporting for applied research, and encouraging innovation and invention in the fields of work of the center.
• Encouraging the establishment of commercially viable companies based on research output.
• Convening and participating in conferences, seminars, and workshops in the fields of research of the center.
• Developing human resourcesworking in research and cooperating with related local, regional and international experts and organizations.
