Welcome to the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Jamaica.
I am extremely honored to have been appointed by President Julius Maada Bio to serve as Sierra Leone's first Honorary Consul to Jamaica. In addition to the typical responsibilities of a Honorary Consul as outlined in the Vienna Convention (1963), including visa functions, citizen services, representation, and promoting goodwill, I will focus on promoting trade and investment, especially in the cultural and creative industries.
The historical and cultural connections between The Republic of Sierra Leone and Jamaica run deep. This provides a unique opportunity to strengthen and enhance these historical/cultural ties while opening new opportunities for collaboration, especially for young Jamaicans/Sierra Leoneans.
The establishment of the Honorary Consulate is timely as Jamaicans and others in the Caribbean are viewing Africa with renewed interest since the 1st CARICOM-Africa Summit held on 7 September 2021. Jamaica and the Caribbean are at the cusp of forging stronger relationships with African countries. Through the Honorary Consulate, the relationship between Jamaica and Sierra Leone will be deepened and strengthened so as to improve the quality of life for Sierra Leoneans and Jamaicans as empowered in Sierra Leone’s Vision 2025 and Jamaica’s Vision 2030.
Working in collaboration with His Excellency Sidique Wai, Sierra Leone's High Commissioner for Jamaica, and his team based in Washington, DC, the Honorary Consulate will play a pivotal role in building a bridge, not only between Sierra Leone and Jamaica, and by extension, between Africa and the Caribbean, but also, between the past, the present and the future.
