nteerism at the community level and an advocate for youth development. The (YOU) was founded in the year 2009, and is eased by the St James Youth Information Centre, “Creating the Difference Today, Tomorrow and Together.”

Happy International Volunteer Day! Thank you to our YOU team who have served and still serving today from 2009. We appreciate you.

International Volunteer Day is a global celebration of volunteers founded in 1985 by the United Nation Volunteers.

It takes place every year on December 5 to shine a light on the impact of volunteer efforts everywhere.

Volunteers are leading social change around the world.

This special day promotes the work of volunteers at all levels, including local, national and international.

Meet Nicholas J. McIntyre, a youth development practitioner, social entrepreneur, corporate emcee, cooking and anime enthusiast who lives by the philosophy, “Nothing great or worthwhile achieving was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”

A past student of Cornwall College, McIntyre is in his final year at UWI Mona pursuing a B.Sc. in International Relations and Management Studies. He is currently the president of the Lilliput Rovers Youth Club and PRO Lilliput CDC and has a new business initiative in the pipeline. Trained in youth development, Nicholas is The Youth Member of Parliament for St. James East Central, has served as Youth Minister of Tourism in the 2019 National Youth Parliament of Jamaica and is a UNESCO Youth Ambassador.

McIntyre has been conferred with many awards and accolades for his scholastic and
altruistic accomplishments. Chief among them are three national awards: The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEYI) National Youth Achievement Award for Exemplary Leadership and Service to the Jamaica Red Cross, The Social Development Commission - Creative Concepts Youth Volunteer Award and The Prime Minister’s Youth Award for Excellence – Community Service & Leadership

Nicholas describes his time at Y.O.U as: “An impactful period of transformational sustainability, where I developed communication skills that transcended into professional spaces where I was able to be on par with influential nation builders. The effect Y.O.U had on my personal life was great and measurable on the Richter scale, so much so that the aftershocks are what keeps me motivate and hopeful today.”

Meet Lishana Sawe, living her purpose as a talented Digital Media Producer and Entrepreneur. Despite many personal and financial challenges, Lishana was able to complete her degree in media production at the University of the West Indies. Her interests include community development and a love of the arts, especially contemporary dance and film production.
Lishauna is currently building her start-up, Easy Life Graphic and Web which provides web and graphic design solutions. Her other achievements include, member and former vice curator of Global Shapers Montego Bay, Vice President in Charge of WJC, Circle K Caribbean District Vice President and Bulletin Editor for UWI STAT.

When asked how YOU impacted her social, professional and personal life, she responded:
“Having lost my biological mom at an early age, YOU provided a space for me to embrace my philanthropic side and discover something that was more wholesome and outside of myself. It gave me an avenue to network and grow which fostered my emergence from one socioeconomic status to the next.”

The Global Services Sector (GSS) Project an initiative being executed by JAMPRO, is pleased to convene its inaugural GSS Virtual Talent Hub Career Fair on Thursday, June 24, 2021, under the theme "Let's Talk Skills, Jobs, and Opportunities in the GSS."

The Fair will mirror a real career day, where candidates can visit bespoke booths of various GSS firms and other exhibitors, submit applications for job listings on the company Job Boards, interact directly with recruiters/company representatives, as well as participate in discussions on current and emerging trends in the global labour market.

Meet Courtney Johnson, a Marine Engineer. He is a graduate of the Caribbean Maritime University (2019), where he completed his Bachelors of Science in Marine Engineering, with Honours.

A former member of the Jamaica Combined Cadet Forces and Cornwall College Alumni. Courtney’s awards and achievements include: Most Outstanding Engineering Student Award from Jamaica Institution of Engineers (2018-2019), Dean’s Honour Roll and training in Safety and Security.

Courtney joined the Youth Organization for Upliftment in 2012 and when outlining the impact of his membership said, “Y.O.U was a very fun and interactive experience. I was encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and increase my awareness on various topics. I was able to develop leadership skills and ignite my passion for community involvement and volunteerism.”

Meet Nimoy Haddo-Ricketts, she joined the Youth Organization for Upliftment in 2009 as a Founding member and was very instrumental in the growth and operations of the organization. Nimoy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and is in active pursuit of her dream in serving her community and the medical fraternity.

She is a proud graduate of the Montego Bay Community College (2014) and the Mt. Alvernia High School. Currently, she ardently serves in her community as Vice President in the Youth Department and Owner of scented candle business.

When asked how YOU impacted her life she stated: “YOU is where my love for volunteerism began. Being apart of the YOU family gave me a deep appreciation for what I have and ignited a fire in me to improve the lives of others.My time at YOU has also taught me important leadership skills which I have built on to be the effective youth leader I am today. “
