Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation We provide continued education for pregnant girls under the age of 18.

The Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation's Programme for Adolescent Mothers help adolescent mothers reintegrated into an institution of learning, after dropping out. They are provided with the necessary support services such as training and developmental counselling, during and after their reintegration.

Since January 1978 to date, over 46,000 adolescent mothers have enrolled in the programme, m

any of whom were / are graduates attending tertiary institutions and / or are working.

The Centre focuses on intervening in the delay of subsequent adolescent pregnancies, which its percentage rate has decreased over the years.

The Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation is grateful to The Heart and Vascular Centre and partners of the Run for Mom 5K for a contribution of JMD $4.5 million towards support for adolescent mothers and maternal and child health.

While part of this support will benefit adolescent mothers enrolled in the Programme for Adolescent Mothers, young mothers who have been reintegrated into the formal secondary school system and those pursuing studies at the tertiary level will be among the primary beneficiaries.

Support like this helps to cover the real costs of staying in school after childbirth, including transportation, meals, school supplies and other basic needs.

The symbolic cheque was presented to the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation by Dr. Lorren Scott of The Heart and Vascular Centre, joined by community mothers and their children.

On hand to receive the cheque were the Honourable Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport; Mrs. Debby-Ann Brown Salmon, Board Chair; Ms. Novlette Howell, Executive Director; and students of the Women’s Centre.

We thank the organisers, sponsors, participants and everyone who gave to this cause.

The Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation has made history with the staging of its first-ever Spelling Competition Grand Championship Finals.

The competition was introduced to help students strengthen their literacy, build confidence, and develop public speaking skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Under the theme, “Spell It Right, Shine Bright,” students demonstrated focus, courage, and determination as they participated in this milestone activity.

Congratulations to all participants, finalists, staff, organisers, and supporters who contributed to the success of this historic initiative.

This year, three of our proud alumnae stood on the graduation stage at three of our locations as guest speakers, sharing their stories of resilience and growth.

This is why we do this work.

To see a young mother rise, return, and give back is deeply emotional and satisfying.

Thank you, ladies, for reminding us that change is possible for every single girl who walks through the doors of the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation.

The Hon. Olivia “Babsy” Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, carries great responsibilities; but to our teen mothers, she is simply Aunty Babsy: caring, warm, and always approachable.

At our Parenting Symposium held on May 9, 2025, Minister Grange took time to connect with our students and their babies, listening, encouraging, and embracing them like family. Her presence reminded us that leadership is not just about policy but about people.

Thank you, Minister Grange, for always making our teen mothers feel seen, heard, and valued.
