The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) would like to register utter disgust and condemnation of the brutal and wanton act of cruelty by gunmen on Sunday, June 4, 2017 which resulted in the death of Maxine Simpson, and wounding of KSAMC Councillor Karl Blake.
Miss Simpson, who served as Secretary to Councillor Blake in the Greenwich Town Division in South Western St Andrew, succumbed to her injuries following the shooting. Across Kingston and St. Andrew, persons like Miss. Simpson commit their lives to community development, nation building and service. She will certainly be missed and we mourn her untimely passing.
Councillor Blake has served the KSAMC with distinction since 2003 and chaired the Divisional Allocation Fund Committee from 2012 to 2016. He also sits on several Committees of Council such as the Civic International, Community Affairs and Public Relations, Building and Town Planning, Finance and Roads and Traffic Enforcement Committees.
Councillor Blake received gunshot wounds to his upper body and is currently hospitalized. Such a situation is clearly of crisis proportions and we are of the mind that additional measures are required including increased cooperation and dialogue between citizens in the area and the police so that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
In the same vein, we seek the support of all residents of Kingston and St. Andrew and Jamaica by extension to join Mayor Delroy Williams and the entire KSAMC family as we continue praying for a speedy recovery for Councillor Blake and the relatives and friends of his deceased assistant.
