European Union in Jamaica

European Union in Jamaica Official page of the Delegation of the European Union to Jamaica. The Head of the EU Delegation to Jamaica is Ambassador Paola Amadei.

Jamaica, as a member of the Caricom Community plays a vital role in policy discussion between Caricom and the EU as well as in coordinating the benefits of resources made available under the EU strategy for the Caribbean. Jamaica is also one of the countries that participate in the EU-Latin America (LAC) summits bi-annually in an effort to better coordinate action in political, social and economic

spheres. EU Jamaica carries out activities under The Cotonou Agreement which is the most comprehensive partnership agreement between developing countries and the EU. Since 2000, it has been the framework for the EU's relations with 79 countries from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP). EU Jamaica also bears the responsibility of carrying out EU policies and building and maintaining existing partnerships that promote growth, stability and development. With its partners, EU Jamaica works in tandem to develop and carry out various projects that can only serve to benefit our country, and offer support to the ongoing process of regional integration within the Caricom Community. Creating safer, fairer, and more inclusive workplaces for all! 🇪🇺🇯🇲
Team European Union was honoured to join Jamaica AIDS Support for Life (JASL) and UWI’s Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) to celebrate 101 graduates of the Human Rights and Discrimination in the Workplace Course.
Over six impactful weeks, this EU-funded initiative, which is part of our broader Promoting Human Rights and Access to Justice project, equipped participants to champion gender equality, understand legal frameworks, and challenge workplace discrimination head-on.
By backing strong advocates like JASL and IGDS at UWI, the EU remains committed to ensuring every citizen’s rights are protected, especially our most vulnerable communities.
Congratulations to all 101 beneficiaries leading the charge for equality!

🎶 Trench Town: where creativity, culture and opportunity come together. 🇯🇲🇪🇺

The EU is thrilled to partner with Jamaica, the UN UN Jamaica and the UNDP UNDP Multi Country Office in Jamaica to support creative industries and livelihoods in this iconic Kingston community.

🏺 Through the ACP-EU Development Minerals Programme, implemented by UNDP, local ceramic artists and craftspeople have gained skills, equipment and opportunities to grow their businesses — and pass their knowledge on to young people.

🎵 Through the EU-funded Creative Caribbean programme, the Trench Town Cultural Hub is building on the community’s extraordinary musical heritage to develop talent, skills and new economic opportunities.

Different projects, one shared idea: invest in people, nurture creativity and turn local talent into opportunity.

Trench Town has given so much creativity to the world. Proud that 🇪🇺 can help support the next generation creating its future here. 💫

In San Carlos village in the Orange Walk District, access to electricity is going to open doors for local shops and entrepreneurs to have stronger businesses and be able to offer new services. It's so exciting that new economic opportunities will be emerging within the community itself!

Through EU-supported rural electrification interventions, access to energy is becoming an investment not only in infrastructure, but in the future growth of Belize’s villages.

Discovering beautiful 🇧🇿 Belize through nature, culture and regional partnerships - wrap-up.

Last weekend marked European Union Ambassador Erja Askola’s first joint mission to Belize with EU Ambassador to Guatemala, Johanna Karanko:

Celebrating the first anniversary of the Calakmul Declaration alongside 🇧🇿 Belize, 🇬🇹 Guatemala and 🇲🇽 Mexico, covering 5.7 million hectares of land in the Great Selva Maya, one of the most important ecosystems in the Americas.
International partners and other stakeholders had the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the participating countries' common intentions and action plan for implementation.

Exploring the spectacular Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve and cruising along the Macal and Raspaculo rivers with Hydro Belize and GIZ, which has been implementing conservation programs in the area together with the 🇩🇪 German ministry and the government of 🇧🇿 Belize.

Visiting the impressive Chalillo Dam and Hydro Belize operations, which highlighted how renewable energy can drive sustainable development and strengthen resilience while bringing down power cost.
This mission demonstrated why it is important to explore regional partnerships and work across borders to protect biodiversity, strengthen energy security and promote sustainable development, including through investments in the key sectors.
