THE ROOTS REGGAE LIVE MOVEMENT

Since its birth in the late 1960’s, Reggae music has had massive impact on different musical genres, cultures and societies in Jamaica, the Caribbean and throughout. The time has come to celebrate when “the reggae root bears new fruit”... where sons and daughters of reggae greats, as well as other youth yearning for substance and mission, are staking their claim, wo

rking to bring back the music within the music and actively taking the conscious movement forward. This recent Roots Reggae resurgence is spawning a new-generation of conscious Jamaican artistes who are taking the international stage by storm. With the positivity of the new wave of reggae that is now emerging on the music scene, there is need to embrace, promote and nurture this positive development through events that provide an opportunity to showcase the new conscious youth talent that has re-engineered the return of reggae music to its rightful place. Similarly there is need to reinforce recognition for artists who have kept roots music on life support throughout the past two decades, to honour the significance of their contributions to the music, the sacrifices they have made and to encourage their continuity in creating message music that will live for eternity. “Roots Reggae Live” is a multi-generational movement to celebrate and preserve the history and future of upful, heartical, revolutionary reggae music, while at the same time stimulating positive culture and action in every dimension of I n I development. The purpose of the Roots Revolution Family Day is to provide an annual high quality event livicated to celebrate the return of social consciousness and positivity in music and preservation of cultural heritage and progressive arts through a multi-generational movement, championed by the youth with mentoring and continuity with the elders in true African tradition. The aim is to make Roots Revolution a special niche date etched in the reggae calendar and to have the event specially endorsed by the Ministry of Education and Culture. It is also envisaged that over time the event will graduate into a two-day weekend festival

In keeping with this overall purpose, the event has the following specific objectives:

1) To showcase conscious young reggae talent alongside reggae veterans to seal

the bridge and continuity with the ambassadors that mentored, inspired and gave

birth to the new generation of reggae.

2) To promote a musical movement that is accompanied with the expression of

culture in all its forms.

3) To provide entertainment for the whole family as a way of promoting the bonds

and importance of family as the unit for the restoration of a positive society.

4) To contribute part proceeds from each annual event to the Haile Selassie

Secondary school in tribute to the significance of the birth of reggae music

through RasTafari, the ancestral link to Africa and spiritual link to Ethiopia.

Also mek noise to stop the new NARRA Bill. This is Colonial Control on steroids with Government and the Prime Monster protecting themself from monitoring and accountability agencies so they will be unable to do their job of protecting the interests of the people.

Give thanks to all the hardworking freedom fighters and to all the caring Jamaicans who came out to learn more about the beach access and wider land issues and to be a part of the resistance

“Culture is not a costume.” — Cedella Marley

From sacramental rights to protection from discrimination and economic exclusion and payment of reparations for past atrocities, the call is growing louder for justice, recognition and respect for the Rastafari community.
