Progress on the Stepney Rainwater Harvesting System!

Today, representatives from Rural Water Supply Limited (RWSL) and our parent ministry, the Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change, visited the construction site of the Stepney Rainwater Harvesting System in St. Ann, where we witnessed an important milestone. The first concrete pour for the framing of the 180,000-gallon water storage tank.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held on May 22, 2026, and construction is now well underway as we continue to make steady progress toward bringing this critical water infrastructure to the community.

The project is designed to support rainwater harvesting and improve water security. Once completed, the system will provide additional water storage capacity and strengthen the community’s ability to access water, particularly during periods of reduced rainfall.

Bunkers Hill Water Supply System Officially Commissioned!

Today, Rural Water Supply Limited (RWSL) officially commissioned the Bunkers Hill Water Supply System in James Hill, Clarendon.

The project has transformed the community’s water infrastructure through the rehabilitation of the existing 5,000-imperial-gallon tank, as well as installation of a new 10,000-imperial-gallon elevated steel storage tank, powered by a solar pumping system, a new transmission pipeline and approximately 9.3 kilometres of distribution pipelines.

With approximately J$91.6 million expended to date, this investment is expected to benefit approximately 3,000 residents across Bunkers Hill, Mears, Broadleaf and Nairne Castle.

But the true value of this project goes beyond the tanks, pipelines and investment. It is about giving families, businesses and communities greater access to a dependable water supply and creating opportunities for growth and development.

The use of solar-powered pumping also demonstrates RWSL’s commitment to practical and sustainable engineering solutions that respond to the needs of the communities we serve.

Today, we celebrate more than the commissioning of a water system. We celebrate greater water security, stronger communities and a better quality of life.

Spring Gardens Water Supply System Officially Commissioned!

Yesterday, Rural Water Supply Limited (RWSL) joined the Spring Gardens community in South St. James for the Commissioning Ceremony of Phase 2 of the Spring Gardens Water Supply System, marking another important milestone in our commitment to improving water security across rural Jamaica.

The Spring Gardens community, home to approximately 2,000 residents, has historically relied heavily on rainfall to meet its potable water needs.

Under Phase 2, significant improvements have been made to strengthen the system, including the upgrade from a fuel-driven pump to a solar-powered pumping system, improvements to the pumping station, extension of the tank base, installation of additional water storage tanks, testing and repairs to the distribution pipeline, and the installation of additional distribution lines.

The solar-powered system is expected to provide gallons of water daily, a significant improvement over the previous supply. Increased storage capacity will also help to support a more reliable supply to residents.

For the people of Spring Gardens, this project means greater access to a more reliable and sustainable water supply, while reducing reliance on fuel-powered pumping and strengthening the community’s resilience.
