The Judiciary of Jamaica The Judiciary of Jamaica is a co-equal arm of government and is essential to establishing and maintaining Jamaica as a free and democratic society.

The administration of justice is carried out through a network of courts. The structure of the Jamaican courts is based on five basic tiers: the Petty Sessions Court, Parish Court, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. These courts form an integral part of the judicial system in Jamaica, and their work is geared towards protecting the constitutional right of every Jamaican.

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes has tested positive for COVID-19. He is experiencing mild symptoms and is under the care of his doctors.

Justice Sykes will remain in isolation for a period of seven days following which it is hoped that he will resume work at the Supreme Court.
