Today, I pause with deep gratitude to honour our teachers—those who have shaped not just minds, but lives.
Teachers have played a fundamental role in who I am today. I reflect on my early years, and I remember clearly the educators who honed my abilities, nurtured my potential, and cared for me as more than just a student. They saw possibilities in me long before I could fully see them in myself.
Today, as the Member of Parliament for Southeast St. Mary, I am proud to stand among an exceptional corps of teachers who continue that same legacy—moulding our children and young people into the very best they can be.
Our children spend the greater part of their day in your care. And in that time, you do far more than teach. You serve as parents, mentors, motivators, counsellors—you are, in many ways, everything and more. You guide not only academic growth, but character, discipline, and hope.
The past year has not been an easy one. In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, we saw your resilience on full display. You stepped forward with leadership, with sacrifice, and with an unwavering commitment to your students. You helped to restore normalcy, often putting the needs of your schools and your children above your own comfort.
To the teachers of Southeast St. Mary, I say thank you.
Thank you for your commitment.
Thank you for your dedication.
Thank you for your leadership.
You are the foundation upon which our future is being built, and your impact will echo for generations to come.
Happy Teacher’s Day.
