1st BN 30th Infantry Regiment Alumni

1st BN 30th Infantry Regiment Alumni This is the unofficial page dedicated to veterans and former members of the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, "Battle Boars."

This is the storied unit that gave the 3d Infantry Division its' nickanme, "The Rock of The Marne." The 1st Battalion 30th Infantry Regiment was originally established in the War of 1812. During the First World War, the 30th Infantry Regiment made history with their courageous stand along the Marne River outside of Paris, France. From July 14th-18th, the Regiment defended their sector of the Marne

River against the last German Offensive of WWI. While other allied forces retreated, this storied Regiment held firm, against overwhelming odds and changed the world forever. Their efforts earned the 3rd Division its nickname as “The Rock of the Marne”. For its heroism the 30th Infantry Regiment was awarded the French Croix de Guerre with Palms. When the US entered World War II in November of 1942, it was the 30th Infantry Regiment that led the assault onto the beaches of North Africa and secured the city of Fedala, Morocco. The Battle Boars fought for three more years- across North Africa and the Mediterranean Sea onto the island of Sicily. Following the landings at Anzio and months of hard fighting in Italy, the Regiment was the first through the Siegfried Line and captured the key cities of Nuremburg, Munich and Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest. The 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom I, III, V and VII defeating tyranny and partnering with Iraqi Security Forces to help the citizens of Iraq rebuild their country. Following its rich tradition of being the tip of the spear, in 2012, the 1st Battalion of the 30th Infantry Regiment led the 3rd Infantry Division into Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. There it once again made history as the first mechanized unit to be reorganized, assigned and fight as a Special Operations Task Force.

Folks want to get cute about racism can find another site to troll. You will get no warning before you are banned. That's how it was in the battalion and that's how it's going to be here.

Battle Boars, sadly the other 30th Regiment Facebook site is starting to be populated by trolls posting political click bait. Admins there have started curating the site in concert with our shared values---a good sign. One "veteran" poster has a profile pic clearly showing the white power symbol.
Many of us may begin to unfollow. This page will remain a page for comradeship and the sharing of memories of service and sacrifice.
Please continue to demonstrate our shared values on public sites.

As we used to say on Friday's, don't embarrass yourself, don't embarrass your family, and don't embarrass the Regiment.

It is with great sadness that I report that we lost Nick Junker this week. His death was sudden and unexpected. Family is still trying to determine what happened. Nick deployed with the battalion to both Iraq in 2010 and Afghanistan in 2012. A mortar man with HHC, he was a helluva Soldier and will be missed by all. Rest in Peace.

Battle Boars from the 2012 OEF deployment will remember SGT Farmer from the ODB. He was a permanent present in our TOC, preparing and briefing the command on all our team missions. Rest In Peace.

CWO2 Jonathan Farmer, a warrant officer with the 5th Special Forces Group, was killed on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in Syria.

On this day, our Regiment began to earn its' place in history. Battle Boars, the original Rock of the Marne!

in 1918, the Aisne-Marne Offensive began. The American 1st Infantry Division and 2nd Infantry Division (Official Page) attacked as part of the French Tenth Army's XX Corps. They advanced behind a heavy artillery barrage in the main effort against the northwest base of the German salient near Soissons. By the time the offensive ended on August 6, 270,000 American Soldiers from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 26th, 28th, 32nd, 42nd Divisions had participated. Their excellent performance inspired Allied confidence in the U.S. Army and its Soldiers, which led to the formation of the First Army as an independent American command.

Battleboars, I wrote this a few years ago. It was never meant to be published, but needed to get this weight off my soul. After the Washington Post ran it, I heard from a lot of people who said they were touche by this, including a Gold Star Father who wrote to me that my words helped him begin to heal. As we go into this weekend with heavy hearts, I encourage you to exorcise your demons in positive ways, like writing. Reach out t your friends and battle buddies. No matter how far, you are not alone. Oh, and don't be an as***le. ~Battle 6 Ancient
