Situato nella Chiesa di San Lorenzo a Venezia, Ocean Space è un centro globale che promuove mostre, attività, ricerche e programmi pubblici che catalizzano l’alfabetizzazione e il sostegno di tematiche oceaniche attraverso l’arte. Fondata e guidata da TBA21–Academy e costruita sulla base del suo ampio lavoro degli ultimi dieci anni, questa ambasciata per gli oceani incoraggia la curiosità, l’impeg

no e l’azione collettiva. Nel 2019 Ocean Space ha inaugurato al pubblico con la mostra di Joan Jonas, “Moving Off the Land II", dopo essere stato in gran parte chiuso per più di 100 anni e dopo ampi lavori di rivitalizzazione, terminati all'inizio del 2020. Ocean Space segue una programmazione annuale che prevede la sua apertura al pubblico dalla primavera all’autunno.
Located in the Church of San Lorenzo in Venice, Ocean Space is a planetary center for exhibitions, activations, research and public programs catalyzing ocean literacy, and advocacy through the arts. Established and led by TBA21–Academy and building on its expansive work over the past ten years, this embassy for the oceans fosters wonder, engagement and collective action. In 2019, Ocean Space opened to the public with the exhibition “Moving Off the Land II” by Joan Jonas, after having been largely closed to the public for more than 100 years and after extensive revitalization works, which were finished in early 2020. Ocean Space operates an annual program, open to the public from spring to autumn.

Ti aspettiamo per sperimentare insieme la tecnica della cianotipia, antica tecnica di stampa fotografica che utilizza la luce e l’acqua per creare immagini dalle caratteristiche tonalità blu.

Le/i partecipanti daranno vita a una composizione personale con conchiglie, corde, elementi naturali e altri materiali di recupero, che verranno disposti su superfici fotosensibili ed esposti alla luce per rivelare forme, sagome e impronte.

Il laboratorio è suddiviso per fasce d’età:
🔹 11:00–12:00 | Laboratorio per bambine e bambini dai 3 ai 5 anni e famiglie

💦 Atlas of Blue. Water reveals

Join us to experiment with the cyanotype technique, an ancient photographic printing process that uses light and water to create images in its signature blue tones.

Participants will bring a personal composition to life, using shells, ropes, natural elements, and other recycled materials, which will be laid out on light-sensitive surfaces and exposed to light to reveal shapes, silhouettes, and impressions.

The workshop is divided by age group:
🔹 11am–12pm | workshop for children aged 3–5 and families
🔹 3–4:30pm | workshop for children aged 6–12 and families

Il film racconta le vicende legate alla raccolta di piante selvatiche commestibili in Palestina e l’impatto delle leggi israeliane che vietano queste pratiche e allontanano ulteriormente il popolo palestinese dalla propria terra.

Seguendo le piante dal loro habitat naturale fino alla cucina, dagli inseguimenti tra raccoglitori e guardie della natura, fino ai processi in tribunale, Foragers restituisce la gioia e il sapere racchiusi in queste tradizioni, insieme alla loro capacità di resistere a una legislazione proibitiva.

The movie tells the stories related to the gathering of edible wild plants in Palestine and the impact of Israeli laws that prohibit these practices, moving the Palestinian people further away from their land.

Following the plants from their natural habitats to the cuisine, from chases between pickers and nature guards to the court cases, Foragers captures the joy and knowledge embedded in these traditions, as well as their capacity to resist prohibitive legislation.

Il film segue la Maschera di Iyagbon mentre attraversa il Weltmuseum di Vienna e si confronta con la collezione di Bronzi del Benin dell’istituzione.

Realizzata dall’artista Samson Ogiamien, la maschera è un’unione immaginaria di tutti i bronzi saccheggiati durante l’invasione britannica della Città di Benin nel 1897, insieme a quelli restituiti nel corso degli anni.

Attraverso un rituale di memoria, lutto e restituzione, il film trasforma il museo in uno spazio in cui violenza coloniale, memoria culturale e ritorno spirituale si incontrano.

The movie follows Mask of Iyagbon as it moves through Vienna’s Weltmuseum and interacts with the institution’s collection of Benin Bronzes.

Created by artist Samson Ogiamen, the mask is an imagined amalgam of the bronzes looted during the British invasion of the City of Benin in 1897, along with those returned over the years.

Through a ritual of remembrance, grief, and restitution, the film turns the museum into a place where colonial violence, cultural memory, and spiritual return come together.

Anche quest’anno ci vediamo al Cinema Galleggiante con una serata di proiezioni selezionate da noi.

Tornano le camminate di The Many Venices in collaborazione con wetlands, i laboratori per bambini/e e famiglie e le visite multisensoriali di Ocean for All.

Il 19 settembre una giornata intera dedicata al cibo, all’ecologia e alla convivialità con una lezione sulla storia dell’acqua la mattina e il grande evento comunitario “Tavole Conviviali in Campo” dal pomeriggio fino a sera.

This year again, we’re meeting at Cinema Galleggiante for an evening of screenings curated by us.

The walks of The Many Venices, in collaboration with wetlands, are back, along with workshops for children and families and the multisensory visits of Ocean for All.

On September 19, join us for a full day dedicated to food, ecology, and conviviality, starting with a morning lesson on the history of water and continuing into the afternoon and evening with the community event “Convivial Tables in Campo”.

🗓️ A settembre l’artista Klara Kofen sarà a Ocean Space per Translating the Lagoon, una serie di tre workshop dedicati al processo decisionale collettivo, alla scrittura e alla performance.

Quello che emergerà nei tre incontri contribuirà direttamente alla realizzazione dell’installazione e della performance dal vivo di The Eyes of Princes, che si terrà nel febbraio 2027 presso Ocean Space.

I workshop sono aperti a partecipanti dai 16 anni in su, provenienti da qualsiasi percorso. Non è richiesta alcuna esperienza o conoscenza pregressa nell’ambito della performance, della scrittura o delle tecnologie digitali.

È possibile prendere parte a singoli workshop oppure seguire l’intero ciclo.

Translating the Lagoon è una serie di workshop sviluppata nell’ambito di Counterfactual Waters, una residenza artistica di Klara Kofen realizzata nel quadro del programma di residenze TIDAL ArtS, finanziato dall’Unione Europea, in collaborazione con Ocean Space di TBA21–Academy a Venezia.

🗓️ This September, artist Klara Kofen will be at Ocean Space for Translating the Lagoon, a series of three workshops exploring collective decision-making, writing, and performance.

What emerges from the three sessions will directly contribute to the development of The Eyes of Princes, an installation and live performance taking place at Ocean Space in February 2027.

The workshops are open to participants aged 16 and over, from all backgrounds. No previous experience or knowledge of performance, writing, or digital technologies is required.

Quest’anno il programma educativo Ocean Families, con il titolo “Atlas of Blue”, esplora i legami tra acqua, memoria e continuità culturale, in dialogo con la mostra “Tide of Returns”.

🎨 Attraverso laboratori e sperimentando pratiche artistiche accessibili, bambine/i e le loro famiglie riflettono sui legami tra memoria e patrimonio, terra e mare, relazioni e cura.

A maggio, durante i primi due laboratori abbiamo trasformato oggetti personali in segni grafici e stampe, e creato bambole della memoria, ispirate a quelle in mostra, usando materiali naturali e di riciclo.

💥 Il programma prosegue sabato 12 e 26 settembre con gli ultimi due appuntamenti.

This year, the educational program Ocean Families, titled “Atlas of Blue,” explores the connections between water, memory, and cultural continuity, in conjunction with the exhibition “Tide of Returns.”

🎨 Through workshops and accessible artistic practices, children and their families reflect on the relationships between memory and heritage, as well as land and sea, connection and care.

In May, during the first two workshops, we transformed personal objects into graphic marks and prints, and created memory dolls inspired by those featured in the exhibition, using natural and recycled materials.

💥 The program continues on Saturday 12 and 26 September with its final two workshops.
