sy because our work is multilateral – we engage with all the countries represented at the UN Agencies, not just one. We work directly with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in the areas of emergency food aid, agricultural development, and food safety standards to promote food security. Other issues we work on include fisheries, forests, and financing for rural development. We also engage with three smaller UN agencies in Rome: The International Development Law Organization (IDLO), ICCROM, an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the conservation of cultural heritage, and the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT). The USUN Mission also promotes the efficient functioning of the UN organizations. As the largest contributor to the UN system worldwide, the United States has a large stake in ensuring that the organizations are well run and that their activities complement and enhance U.S. Favorite Quote:

September 11 is a day we will never forget.

We remember where we were that morning. We remember what we saw. We remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

Today, I stood at the Twin Towers Memorial in Rome to honor the memory of those we lost and to remember the enduring bonds of friendship and solidarity that unite us.

Together, we honor their memory — not only today, but every day. Through our service and our diplomacy, we work to build a safer, more secure world. - Ambassador Blanchard

25 years after September 11, 2001, we commemorate the lives lost and the enduring strength of the American spirit.

❓🔎 Ever wondered who helps set the standards behind the food we eat?

👉🏼 The Alimentarius is the international “food code” developed through the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission.

🌍 It brings countries together to develop science-based standards that help protect consumer health and promote fair practices in interational food trade.

📍🇺🇸 The United States is an active member of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, working alongside countries around the world on international food standards.

🍼 One example of an area covered by Codex is infant formula, with standards addressing composition, nutritional adequacy, and quality to keep babies safe.

🌿🫱🏼‍🫲🏻 From the negotiating table to your dinner table —Ambassador Blanchard is digging into why plant health is a BIG deal.

At Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), she met with officials from the International Plant Protection Convention - IPPC to champion the invisible frontline that keeps trade flowing, food safe, and American farmers competitive worldwide.

Because sometimes the most important diplomacy starts… with a seed. 🌱

📚🔙As students across America head back to campus, Ambassador Blanchard reflects on her recent visits to Clemson University, Auburn University, University of Florida, and Texas A&M University — four of the nation’s outstanding land-grant universities.

🌽🔬These institutions, and land grant
universities across the country, are driving agricultural innovation and food-security research that aligns directly with the work of the UN’s Rome-based agencies Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Food Programme , and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). 🇺🇸 U.S. academic excellence and international efforts to end hunger make a powerful partnership.
