NHAZCA Srl NHAZCA (Natural HAZards Control and Assessment) is a Startup Company of Sapienza University of Rome and man-made elements (e.g. dams, bridges, buildings etc.)

NHAZCA is a spin-off company of “Sapienza” University of Rome providing innovative services and consultancies addressed to entities in charge of land management and planning, oil&gas companies, mining companies, large infrastructures companies and entities in charge of conservation of architectural heritages. NHAZCA takes advantage of a large network of partners from both the research and industri

al fields such as international firms dealing with structural monitoring and geophysics like IMG S.r.l. Services and consultancies provided by NHAZCA at international level are based on innovative and fully customizable techniques to address customer’s needs. High-tech solutions and home-made protocols allow for the investigation and monitoring of natural phenomena (e.g. landslides, volcanoes, earthquakes, avalanches, floods, subsidences, glaciers etc.) with a specific focus on surface deformation and related effects. NHAZCA supports clients in every step of the risk mitigation plan: i) preliminary assessment, ii) identification of the best investigation solutions, iii) data collection and interpretation and, finally, iv) identification of the best remediation solutions.

Our high-tech services: Smart Geotechnical Asset Management

SGAM (Smart Geotechnical Asset Management) is a service developed by NHAZCA that focuses on the risks affecting structures and infrastructures, analysing their interaction with the local geological and environmental context enabling predictive maintenance of assets.
Through a process of smart automatic classification, the service assesses the direct or potential future impact of geohazards such as landslides, floods, sinkholes, etc.
The service helps decision makers and asset managers to define and prioritise maintenance activities based on asset vulnerability and loss scenarios (risk-based management).
This is achieved by integrating a large amount of historical and newly acquired data through a data fusion approach that combines information from space industry, global and regional geodatabases, data collected from field surveys or ground-based structural health monitoring systems, and geotechnical/geomorphological monitoring systems.

Structural Health Monitoring consists in the assessment of the static and dynamic behaviour of infrastructures over time based on data-driven or model-driven approaches.
The purpose of SHM is to evaluate the safety, efficiency and durability of structures using advanced continuous monitoring technologies.
A number of methodologies can be applied in SHM based on the geotechnical and physical parameters to be monitored.

PS ToolBox: Unlocking actionable information from InSAR data in one click.

An innovative tool developed by NHAZCA, PS ToolBox is a suite of GIS plugins for the interpretation and post-processing of A-DInSAR data.

PS Toolbox is composed of several plugins:
• Format Dataset: makes datasets compatible with other PS Toolbox tools;
• Plot Time Series: allows visualisation, interaction and export of dataset time series and customisation of display parameters;
• KMZ Export: exports datasets in .kmz format, making it possible to display three-dimensional images in Google Earth Pro;
• Filtering: applies smoothing to dataset time series;
• Vectorial Decomposition: allows decomposition of the PS speed into two distinct components, the east-west component and the up-down component;
• Interferometric Sections: creates interferometric sections based on the speed or displacement provided by the PS of the datasets;
• Trend Change Detection: identifies trend changes within time series;
• Linear Infrastructures: characterises road sections in SHP format according to the velocity of the nearby PS;
• Spatialisation: allows the generation a classified raster map in order to identify deformation cluster;
• Data Fusion: enables the generation of heat maps from multi-source data with different orbital geometries and sensors;
• Buildings: classifies polygons of buildings according to the velocity of the nearby PS
