- Innovazione e vantaggio competitivo;

The future of education beyond 2030: where are we heading? 📚

📌 Reflecting on Prof. Christian Ydesen’s lecture, a clear picture emerges regarding the challenges awaiting us in a world marked by interconnected crises (the "polycrisis"). While we often repeat the promise that education will "save the world," we frequently remain trapped in performance-driven logics.

Instead, it is time to reimagine education as a true human and cultural project, capable of empowering individuals to actively navigate a complex world—shifting from simple resilience to genuine responsibility.

📣 SUSEES 2026 continues tomorrow at the Federico II University Technological Campus in San Giovanni a Teduccio!

We look forward to another day of inspiring talks, discussions and exchanges! 🙌

📣 From SUSEES participant to inspiring keynote speaker: what an incredible full-circle moment with our first lecturer Nelli Piattoeva today!

👉As Professor of Sociology of Education at Tampere University, she took us deep into one of the most vital questions in the field: how we think about and with context in comparative educational research.

🎤 In an engaging lecture, she challenged the modern obsession with decontextualized policies—like trying to copy-paste educational models from top-performing PISA countries without accounting for local ecosystems. Instead, she invited us to see context as active and socio-material, shaped by both discourse and material factors like time zones!

Her insights gave our early-career scholars plenty of food for thought on how we study and measure education across borders.

Sparking sharp questions and fresh critical perspectives among our researchers—exactly what the SUSEES community is built for!

Started today in Naples the 10th edition of SUSEES - Summer School on European Education Studies! 🚀
👉 A unique space where critical inquiry meets collaborative educational scholarship and groundbreaking methodologies!

📌 The inaugural session saw the participation of Salvatore Capasso, Director of the CNR Department of Human Sciences and Cultural Heritage CNR DSU, highlighting the importance of investing in critical knowledge, public research, and cross-border dialogue to empower early-career researchers and cultivate open spaces for policy analysis.

🔎 Building on this strong foundation, SUSEES 2026 moves boldly beyond traditional policy analysis. Emiliano Grimaldi introduces the lens of Speculative Design to explore "commoning education" alongside local initiatives, while Paolo Landri grounds our theoretical inquiry in the principles of the commons, bridging Elinor Ostrom’s framework with contemporary educational challenges to examine how communities can govern shared resources sustainably.

🌿 This critical theory meets the living territory through Stefania Ragozino, who introduces us to Naples' urban commons and the Giardino Liberato Di Materdei ahead of our upcoming field trip—an extraordinary terrain of social experimentation, political struggle, and alternative educational practices.

🙌 Bringing this vision directly into practice, our participants have immediately transformed the room into a dynamic open laboratory. Presenting their own research projects, they are turning SUSEES into a vibrant hub for sharp feedback, dialogue, and collaborative thinking. 💬

Stay tuned for further updates from SUSEES 2026 😊

🎤 Today, at the Fourth International Conference of Scuola Democratica at the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’, Paolo Landri delivered a thought-provoking opening keynote addressing this very question amidst our current era of "polycrisis".

👉 Rather than falling into the traps of nostalgia, chasing an idealized past, or resignation, surrendering education to compliance and algorithmic sorting, the keynote proposed a third path: reconnecting school and society, differently, through a socio-ecological perspective.

📌 Key takeaways from the address:
🔹 The School as an Ecosystem: Moving away from the school as a closed container of learning towards an open, relational ecosystem where communities, territories, and natural environments co-evolve.
🔹 More-than-Human Governance: Challenging human exceptionalism in education policy by critically addressing the entanglements of humans, digital platforms, AI, and material environments.
🔹 The Ecological School as a Commons:Envisioning schools not as corporate sub-contractors or sorting machines, but as self-governed common-pool resources acting as energy communities, circular economy labs, and sites of climate resilience.

A vital reminder that the survival strategy for democratic education is not building a fortress of the past, but the patient, collective work of becoming open, generative, and deeply connected to our shared living world.
