Attention on deck! 📣💯

U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. James Lively, commanding general of Task Force 61/2 visits the USS MOUNT WHITNEY LCC 20 on Aug. 6, 2025.

During the visit Lively met with Vice Adm. J. T. Anderson, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet and toured the Mount Whitney.

Task Force 61/2 is currently deployed in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations to advance U.S., Allied and partners interests, and support the warfighting effectiveness, lethality and readiness of U.S. Naval and Marine Corps forces in the region.

U.S. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 365 (Reinforced), 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC), fire M240B machine guns during a crew-served weapons deck shoot aboard the amphibious assault ship USS WASP LHD 1 while underway in the Mediterranean Sea, Oct. 30, 2024. The Wasp (WSP) Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and embarked 24th MEU (SOC) is conducting operations in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations on a scheduled deployment. U.S. Marines assigned to the “Blue Knights” of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 365 (Reinforced), prepare to take off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS WASP LHD 1 to support a long-range maritime strike event as part of Neptune Strike 2024-2 (NEST 24-2), Oct. 28, 2024. Today, November 10, 2024, U.S. Marines around the globe celebrate 249 years of success on the battlefield and a legacy defined by honor, courage and commitment. This year, the Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Eric M. Smith and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Carlos A. Ruiz reiterate to the force that Marines are ready to confront the challenges ahead and that the Marine Corp's reputations as warriors is a living testament.

Passing the Traditions 🍰

U.S. Marine Corps Col. Andrew V. Martinez, the oldest Marine in attendance, passes a slice of cake to Lance Cpl. Kevin Deshler, the youngest Marine in attendance, during a cake-cutting ceremony celebrating the 249th Marine Corps Birthday at U.S. Naval Support Activity Naples, Italy, Nov. 7, 2024. During the ceremony, a slice of cake cut with the Mameluke sword is given to the oldest Marine present, then passed to the youngest Marine present, signifying the passing of tradition from one generation to another generation. Task Force 61/2's synchronized command and control of assigned forces and seamless integration with U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet and U.S. Marine Forces Europe and Africa directly supports regional readiness, crisis response, and deterrence in the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) area of operations.

VBSS Aboard the USS New York

Sailors assigned to the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS NEW YORK (LPD 21), conduct visit board search and seizure (VBSS) drills aboard the ship, Oct. 5, 2024. VBSS team members participate in maritime boarding actions and tactics, designed to capture enemy vessels, to combat terrorism, piracy and smuggling.
