NIAF has officially requested that New York revise its new “Immigrant Enclaves Map” which excluded several historic Italian American neighborhoods. In a letter addressed to Mayor Mamdani, NIAF President & CEO Robert Allegrini stated the following.
"New York’s Little Italies are more than tourist destinations. They are living monuments to the resilience, perseverance, and contributions of millions of Italian immigrants and Italian Americans whose influence can still be found in every borough of New York City. They remain important places of pilgrimage for visitors from across the United States and around the world seeking to understand the Italian American experience. As such, we respectfully urge your administration to revise the map to include the city’s Little Italies as well as other historical immigrant enclaves that may have also been overlooked."
