Milan PCG and OWWA Milan Launches OWWA Cup 2026
MILAN, 14 June 2026 โ The Philippine Consulate General in Milan and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Milan, in partnership with the Filipino Bowlers Association in Milan (FBAM), successfully launched the OWWA Cup 2026: Ang Liga ng OFW! at the Play-Up Bowling Center. The event brought together Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families in a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, health, and unity.
The bowling tournament forms part of the activities commemorating the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, providing a meaningful opportunity for members of the Filipino community in Northern Italy to gather, strengthen ties, and celebrate national pride through sports and camaraderie.
In his opening remarks, Philippine Consul General Jim Tito San Agustin highlighted the importance of community-building and wellness among OFWs, noting that beyond competition, the event serves as a platform to encourage healthy lifestyles and foster solidarity among Filipinos abroad.
Consul General San Agustin underscored the value of integrating sports and physical activity into daily life, especially for migrant workers whose demanding schedules often affect both physical and mental well-being. He emphasized that activities such as bowling help reduce stress, promote fitness, and strengthen community bonds.
The Consul General also commended OWWA Milan for conducting its on-site membership drive under the banner โAlagang OWWA: Serbisyong may Puso,โ reminding OFWs of the importance of maintaining active OWWA membership as a vital safety net that provides access to welfare programs, social protection, and educational assistance for their families.
He expressed his appreciation to OWWA Milan and FBAM for organizing the tournament and for their continued efforts to promote the welfare and well-being of the Filipino community in Italy.
The OWWA Cup 2026 will culminate in an Awarding Ceremony on 27 June 2026, where winning teams and outstanding participants will be recognized for their achievements and exemplary sportsmanship.
Through initiatives such as the OWWA Cup, the Philippine government continues to reinforce its commitment to supporting the welfare, health, and unity of overseas Filipinos, while fostering a strong sense of community and patriotism among Filipinos abroad. END
