The Politics for Unity Movement (MPPU) is an international network of politicians, ordinary citizens, diplomats and officials involved at various levels, administrators, academics, researchers, young people interested in political issues, of different inspiration and parties, who wish to respond, on a personal and collective level, to the great questions that humanity faces today, recognizing in universal fraternity the content and the specific method of their political commitment. It started in 1996 and developed in response to democratic crises in many countries. Today it is established in Europe, Latin America and Africa, and is being established in Asia, the Middle East and North America. As a “laboratory” of political thought and practice, it proposes political innovation, advocacy and cooperation with national and international institutions, training courses for young people and political actors and processes of cooperation between peoples, cities, institutions, states, for the promotion and care of common goods and the common good.

The goal? An economy that meets everyone’s needs while respecting our planet’s ecological limits.

How do we build peace in a fragmented world? By starting from the bottom up. 🌍✨

In our latest synchronous session at the MPPU Global School of Politics, changemakers from across Latin America, Europe, and beyond came together to explore dialogue, ecological sovereignty, and new models of global governance.

From protecting vital ecosystems in Latin America to learning from historical peace processes in Europe, here are the key takeaways from our journey together:

🌱 Multilateralism from below: Martha Arreola (Cuidadores de la Casa Común) showed us how local environmental defense along the Paraná River basin is inspiring continental action for climate justice.

🤝 Transforming conflict: true dialogue requires active listening, converting historical wounds into bridges, and practicing synodality, walking together even when politics fall short.

🇪🇺 Lessons in peacebuilding: Marco Luppi revisited the roots of European integration, reminding us how shared interests can transform memories of war into lasting cooperation.

War is not a political tool, it is the failure of politics.

Faced with growing global conflicts, MPPU rejects armed violence and calls on world leaders, international organizations, and citizens to choose diplomacy over destruction.

We propose 4 pathways to transform politics from the ground up:
Our Common Humanity: look at conflict through the eyes of mothers and fathers: human life must come before any nation or border.
Women’s Voices & Care: harnessing the culture of care to dismantle violent power dynamics and open new paths to peace.
Rejecting the Economy of War: striking at the root of violence by exposing weapon production interests and converting resources toward human life.
Peace as Politics: building a fraternal culture to “love another’s homeland as one’s own” (Chiara Lubich) and prevent conflicts before they start.

War is not inevitable. Just as humanity once abolished slavery, we can eliminate war from our shared future.

Co-Governance Solutions for Cities: MPPU and New Humanity at the UN 🌍✨

How can local urban solutions drive global change?
In July 2024, MPPU and New Humanity hosted the UN High-Level Political Forum event “From Crisis to Collective Action: Co-Governance Solutions for Cities,” uniting academics, policymakers, and citizens to share concrete practices supporting SDGs 1, 2, 13, 16, and 17. 🌿

Key highlights included:
• Care for the Planet: Ecological transitions and collaborative urban planning in Colombia and Brazil
• Overcoming Poverty & Development: Youth and women-led innovation in Kenya
• Peacebuilding: Social inclusion initiatives in Syria, Jordan, Italy, and the US

As MPPU President Javier Baquero emphasized, collaborative governance is key to turning local action into impactful global policy for resilient, equitable cities. 🏛️✨

Born under the bombs of World War II in 1943, the Political Movement for Unity (MPPU) continues to stand for one bold vision: universal brotherhood. 🌍

In a world torn apart by a “third world war fought piecemeal,” we came together. Politicians, diplomats, researchers, and activists from 22 countries across 5 continents joined forces to raise a unified voice and ask forgiveness from the victims.

💡 Our message is simple yet uncompromising:
War CANNOT be a political tool. Peace isn’t a distant fantasy, it’s a concrete political choice that must be built every day, from local communities to international parliaments.
