Eleonora di Toledo era bella e giovanissima, figlia di Don Pedro di Toledo, arriva a Firenze per sposare Cosimo I de' Medici. Un matrimonio voluto per alleanza politica ma diventato uno tra i più felici della storia della famiglia: comprensivi e innamorati l’uno dell’altra, furono sempre benevoli nei confronti del popolo e dei più deboli.

We owe a lot to Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, who ensured that her family's wealth of art treasures would forever remain in Florence “for the ornament of the State, the utility of the public and to attract the curiosity of foreigners”.

On February 18, anniversary of her death, Palazzo Medici Riccardi (pictured) and Florence's civic museum network (Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Maria Novella, the Brancacci Chapel, Bardini Museum, Museo del Bigallo and Fondazione Salvatore Romano) will offer free entry to honor her legacy.

On February 7, 1609, Ferdinando I de Medici 'died in Florence after 22 years of government as Grand Duke of Tuscany.

Destined for an ecclesiastical career, in 1587 he had to abandon his cardinal clothes and assume temporal power. He married Cristina di Lorena, with whom he had nine children. Forte Belvedere was built during its grand duchy.
