La torre civica dell’orologio, Rione Castello ITALIANO: La Torre dell'Orologio fu costruita ex novo sul finire del XVIII secolo nel punto di ingresso del castello medievale la cui fondazione è dell'anno 1366. Era costituito da 6 torri e nel 1555 p***e ogni funzione difensiva, già nel 1676 la cortina muraria risultava per gran parte diruta fino alle fondamenta e permanevano solo 3 torrazzi. La part
e est della cortina muraria, residua al 1763, fu definitivamente abbattuta a metà del XIX secolo, assieme alla chiesa di S.Clemente per fare posto alla parte finale dei lavori di Villa Saracini, in particolare il Viadotto e le alte murature a scarpa del piazzale. Dalla Torre dell'Orologio è possibile spaziare con la vista quasi tutto il territorio della Berardenga, dagli insediamenti etruschi d'altura del Chianti, alle Crete senesi. ENGLISH: The Clock Tower was built from scratch towards the end of the 18th century, at the entry point of the former mediaeval castle. The castle was founded in 1366 and consisted of 6 towers but in 1555 it ceased to serve a defensive purpose. By 1676 the surrounding wall had mostly crumbled down to the foundations and only 3 towers remained. The eastern part of the wall, which was the only remains by 1763, was definitively demolished in the mid-19th century, together with the church of St. Clemente to make room for the final part of the Villa Saracini construction work, in particular the viaduct and the high sloping walls of the square. From the clock tower there is a view across almost the entire territory of Berardenga, from the high-altitude Etruscan settlements of Chianti to the Crete Senesi.
