Happy Summer, dear parents!
Information about summer activities and courses for children and adolescents
This summer we will offer a variety of leisure and educational activities for children and adolescents in
Reykjavík. You can also find information about summer activities on the leisure website www.fristund.is, that
is, information regarding leisure center activities, sailing courses, summer camps, sport courses, horse riding
courses, and many other activities
offered.
Registration
Registration for leisure centers’ summer activities (sumarfrístund), specific social center activities, a sailing
course in Siglunes, and an animal course at Húsdýragarðurinn, starts on Tuesday April 27th, at 10:00 am, but
registration for summer workshops for children finishing grades 5-7 starts on Tuesday May 11th, at 10:00 am.
Registration for summer activities offered by the City of Reykjavík takes places on the website
http://sumar.fristund.is. Please take note that the log-in takes place on island.is, where you can use Íslykill or
Electronic ID for phones.
Registration for leisure centers’ summer activities, specific social center activities, and sailing course must take
place before 12:00 pm on Fridays, should the child start the course on the following Monday. Registration for
the animal course must take place on the Wednesday of the week before the start of the course. Parents are
asked to register their children in a timely manner, as courses can fill up quickly.
If parents are of foreign origin and have a legal domicile in Reykjavík (one or both parents) and the child has
lived in Iceland for less than two years, parents can apply for a three week period free of charge to the leisure
centers’ summer activities/specific social center activities/summer workshops. A written application needs to
be delivered to the relevant leisure center. This discount does not apply to children who have a legal domicile
outside of Iceland and come temporarily to Iceland during the summer months.
Please note that if parents are not able to utilize the electronic registration, they can receive assistance with
registration at the city’s leisure centers (preferably before noon). It is not possible to register children for
Reykjavík’s summer activities by phone, but it is possible to receive instructions by phone if parents are by an
internet-connected computer, by calling the Reykjavík phone service center at 411-1111.
Registration for summer activities with other associations takes place with them.
The Work School
The Reykjavík Work School offers summer jobs to students in grades 8, 9 and 10 in elementary schools.
Registration for Reykjavík’s Work School has already started and everyone who has registered is offered work.
Parents must register their teenagers at the Work Schools website, http://vinnuskoli.is/ where they can also find
further information about the work.
Parents, please note
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, changes to the city’s offers of summer courses are possible, based on
recommendations of the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management and the Chief
Epidemiologist each time. If changes occur, parents will be informed as soon as possible.
With hopes of pleasant cooperation,
