Tour 2 Eyjafjallajökull
We depart Bakki airport, heading straight over to the Vestman Islands. The beauty of the Islands is legendary, and soon to be seen as they rise out of the ocean like a magnificent Gothic structure. Enormous cliffs, dropping hundreds of feet into the ocean, covered with millions of marine birds going about their daily business. The endless stream of fishing boats coming and going with their bounty from the sea, shows the fact that you’re at the biggest fishing port ion Iceland. On we go south to the youngest island in the world, Surtsey, while crossing over the biggest Gannet population anywhere in the world. The baeutiful Gannet, is suitably named the Queen of the Atlantic.
Now course is set for Dyrholaey, the Jewel of the South Coast, enveloped by glaciers and magnificent mountains. Close by is Vik in Myrdal, a small village sitting by the shoreline, but still engorged by the mountains. Of course Reynisdrangar rock formations jet out of the nearby sea. On our way back we fly over the rugged Eyjafjallajokull Glacier, the sight of the massive 2010 eruption that brought the world of aviation to a standstill, all across the world. Gliding across Thorsmork, the incredible National park, that is believed by many to be one of the most beautiful places on earth! As we head for landing at Bakki airport we buzz by Landmannalaugar, a stunning mountainous area showing all the colors of a Royal Flush and then some!
