UPDATE!

Voting in Dutch elections from abroad:

If you are a Dutch national living abroad, you can still cast your vote in Dutch and European Parliamentary elections.

Eligibility for voting if you are temporarily staying abroad:

If you are temporarily staying abroad, for example for work, study or holidays, then you are entitled to vote if you are still registered with a Dutch municipality. There are two ways to vote if you are temporarily staying abroad:

1) voting by post;
2) voting by proxy.

If you are abroad during elections for the Provincial Councils, water boards or municipal councils, you can only vote by proxy. Voting by post from abroad is not possible for these elections.

Eligibility to vote if you are living abroad:

If you have Dutch nationality and you live abroad and are no longer registered in a Dutch municipality, you can only vote in elections for the lower house of the Dutch Parliament, the European Parliament and advisory referendums. To be able to vote, you must register as a voter with the municipality of The Hague. You will then receive the relevant documents for voting by post for each election.

Go this the website below to register as voter with the municipality of The Hague:

QUICK CORONA TESTS IS NEEDED TO ENTER NL - FROM 23 JANUARY ONWARDS!

All passengers travelling to the Netherlands by air or sea from high-risk areas must be able to produce a negative result of a rapid COVID-19 test performed shortly before their departure. The test must not have been performed more than four hours prior to boarding the aircraft or ship. Mind you: the quick test IS NOT AVAILABLE (YET) AT IKA AIRPORT.

This requirement is in addition to the existing mandatory negative test result for a PCR test performed no more than 72 hours before arrival in the Netherlands. These measures also apply to people travelling to the Caribbean parts of the Netherlands.

What is more, travellers must self-quarantine for 10 days on arrival in the Netherlands. After five days they can get tested. If the result of this PCR test is negative they may end their self-quarantine. Since rapid test facilities are not available near all ports and airports, the government expects that the double-test requirement will reduce the amount of travel to the Netherlands. As a result it may be difficult for some people to get home. Dutch nationals who have a compelling reason to travel to the Netherlands and cannot produce a negative PCR and rapid test result in time should contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For travellers from countries outside the EU, a travel ban has been in force since March 2020. The government has decided to reduce the number of exemptions from this ban. As a result, business travellers, students, highly-skilled migrants, professionals from the cultural and creative sectors and people in long-distance romantic relationships wishing to travel to the Netherlands for a short period will no longer be granted entry.

These measures will take effect on Saturday 23 January 2021 at 00.01.

In June and July 2020, the School of International Relations in Tehran and the Erasmus University College in Rotterdam organised a digital academic exchange programme.

Over several weeks, 19 SIR and EUC participants took the lead in hosting digital sessions focusing on topics such as governance, economy, society, culture and geopolitics. The students developed intercultural communication skills and built knowledge of the other’s society, state and culture.

Even in times of corona, we can still connect, discuss and learn from each other. Great job!

One of the winners of the Online Cultural Challenge of the Netherlands Embassy are Persian musicians Jabiz Hafizi, Arash Roozbehi & Amin Ebrahimi! Congratulations!

The talented pianist Jabiz and bariton singer Arash are going to perform 7 Persian folk songs from different parts of Iran at the Gaudeamus Music Festival in Utrecht in September. The songs are arranged by the Dutch composer Hugo Bouma who creates some real Persian/Dutch fusion music! The first part of the program will be a so-called 'Rumi Cycle' (composed by Amin): new music with texts based on poems of the famous Persian poet Rumi, from his book Masnavi.

We will share the link of the website where you can watch their performance (for free!) any time soon!

And this is not all..... there will be a third part of this Dutch/Persian music project, so stay tuned!

"Tehran, the city of shadows"

Very glad to introduce you to Neda Kazemi who - together with Mohamad Vahmain - made a photo book about the many green spaces in the bustling city of Tehran, called 'Tehran, city of shadows'. As a child of a Dutch mother and Iranian father, Neda grew up in Tehran.

Her parents showed her the beautiful public and private gardens of the metropolis. Neda: 'They loved the trees, the parks and the water that originates from the mountains'. In their book, Mohamad and Neda highlight all kinds of green pockets of serenity in Tehran, as a tribute to her parents and to the city where she still feels at home.

The Netherlands Embassy will organize a book presentation as soon as the corona situation in Tehran improves. In case you can't wait and want to know more about this photo project, please contact Neda ([email protected]).

Did you kow that Tehran has more green space than global standards? Urban green spaces are increasingly important in expanding cities like Tehran. Trees help to reduce air pollution and are important for people's well-being and public health!

What is your favorite green space in Tehran? Let us know and also follow us on Instagram:
