Congratulations to Dutch national Erika van IJken, who served with EUAM, on receiving a well-deserved medal by Head of Mission EUAM Iraq - Ralf Schroeder and Chargé d’Affaires of the Netherlands - Christoph Prommersberger last week in recognition of her contribution to the Security Sector Reform (SSR) in Iraq.

SSR is at the heart of a stable, accountable and resilient Iraq. It strengthens institutions, reinforces the rule of law, and helps build trust between institutions and communities, ensuring that security can serve and protect all citizens with professionalism, legitimacy and confidence. Through its dedicated engagement, EUAM Iraq plays a vital role in supporting Iraq on this path of reform and long-term stability.

The Netherlands strongly supports these efforts and stands alongside our Iraqi and international partners in building a safer, stronger future for Iraq. We extend our sincere congratulations and appreciation to Erika for her dedication and commitment to this important mission.

نتقدم بأحرّ التهاني للمواطنة الهولندية إريكا فان آيكن، التي عملت ضمن بعثة الاتحاد الأوروبي الاستشارية في العراق، بمناسبة حصولها على وسام مستحق من قبل رئيس البعثة السيد رالف شرودر والقائم بالأعمال لسفارة مملكة هولندا السيد كريستوف برومرسبيركر الأسبوع الماضي، تقديراً لإسهامها في دعم إصلاح قطاع الأمن في العراق.

It was a pleasure to meet with H.E. the Mayor of Baghdad, Mr. Ammar Mousa, to discuss opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation between 🇳🇱 and 🇮🇶, particularly in the areas of municipal services, urban development, and public infrastructure.

We discussed the significant development projects taking place across Baghdad and explored ways to enhance cooperation through the exchange of expertise in agriculture, water management, and waste recycling. The meeting also touched on the development of the new Embassy compound reflecting the Netherlands’ long-term commitment to Iraq.

Last month, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Kurdistan Regional Government, together with UNHCR, UNICEF, and the World Bank, launched a new pilot initiative in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The pilot will strengthen social safety nets for 3,200 families, including 600 refugee households, over the coming year by integrating them into existing national protection systems, helping to promote greater inclusion and long-term resilience.

This pilot is funded by the Netherlands through the PROSPECTS partnership, an initiative that supports increased self-reliance and access to national systems for refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), while also benefiting host communities across eight countries — including Iraq 🇮🇶

The ambassador and embassy team met with PMs advisor on Yazidi affairs Dr. Khalaf Sinjari over dinner, to discuss important topics including land rights, the position of minorities like the Yazidi community and reconstruction efforts. It remains a high priority for 🇳🇱 to enhance stability in 🇮🇶

An inspiring evening at restaurant Qasr Aliya that started with a spectacular sunset view over Tigris, from a place that speaks volumes of the rich Iraqi heritage and culture.

Ambassador met with the newly appointed President of the Republic of Iraq, H.E. Nizar Amede. She conveyed congratulations, also on behalf of His Majesty the King of the Netherlands, and wished him success in the important responsibilities ahead.

We discussed the importance of a strong and inclusive government for the stability and prosperity of all Iraqi people, especially during these challenging times.

The Netherlands looks forward to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Iraq in fields such as livelihoods, climate resilience, agriculture and water including maritime development 🇮🇶🇳🇱


التقت السفيرة جانيت البيردا بالرئيس الجديد لجمهورية العراق، فخامة الرئيس نزار ئاميدي ونقلت له التهاني بمناسبة توليه مهامه، وذلك أيضًا نيابةً عن جلالة ملك هولندا، مع تمنياتها له بالتوفيق والنجاح في مسؤولياته الوطنية المقبلة.
