Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation - Smart City Visakhapatnam is one of the earliest municipalities in Andhra Pradesh. It is the civic body that governs the city of Visakhapatnam.

Visakhapatnam is a port city on the southeast coast of India and often called "The Jewel of the East Coast" . With a population of 20,91,811 and occupying 681.96 sq.km(proposed), it is the second largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh and the third largest city on the east coast of India (after Chennai and Kolkata). Visakhapatnam is located 625 kilometres (388 mi) east of the state capital, H

yderabad. The city is home to several state-owned heavy industries and a steel plant; it is one of India's largest seaports and has the country's oldest shipyard. Visakhapatnam has the only natural harbour on the east coast of India. It is nestled among the hills of the Eastern Ghats and faces the Bay of Bengal on the east. Visakhapatnam is the administrative headquarters of Visakhapatnam district and headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy.

🌆 Strengthening Visakhapatnam's Future Through Global Collaboration

GVMC Commissioner Shri Ketan Garg, IAS, held a review meeting with World Bank representatives regarding the development of the City Economic Region (CER) under the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER). The discussions focused on key urban infrastructure sectors including water supply, sanitation, mobility, housing, road connectivity, and sustainable city development.

The World Bank team is undertaking a comprehensive study to identify priority projects and investment opportunities that will support Visakhapatnam's transformation into a world-class economic and urban hub.

GVMC North Zone conducted a special awareness programme in Ward No. 49, educating citizens on the importance of preventing open urination and avoiding the disposal of waste into drains. Zonal Commissioner B. Ramu emphasized that maintaining clean surroundings is a shared responsibility and public participation is vital for protecting public health, preventing mosquito breeding, and ensuring a cleaner city.

🧹 Let’s Build a Cleaner Visakha Through Operation Clean Sweep!

Visakhapatnam South MLA Shri Vamsi Krishna Srinivas Yadav, along with GVMC Additional Commissioner Shri P. Nallanayya and Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) Dr. E.N.V. Naresh Kumar, participated in the Operation Clean Sweep programme at Bukka Veedhi, Ward No. 38, and called upon citizens to actively contribute towards building a cleaner and healthier Visakhapatnam.

As part of the second week of the campaign, extensive sanitation activities, including the cleaning of storm water drains, nalas, and back lanes, were undertaken to improve public hygiene and strengthen monsoon preparedness. The leaders emphasized that achieving a clean city requires active public participation, responsible waste segregation through the four-bin system, and collective community effort.

Awareness stalls on single-use plastic control, mosquito prevention, and scientific waste management were also organized, encouraging residents to adopt sustainable sanitation practices and support the vision of a cleaner, greener Visakhapatnam.
