Emma, Executive Director of the Asian Legacy Library (ALL), shares a message of gratitude to the global ALL community.

Your contribution is not something that will be thanked only by the people impacted now with your donation, but further it is something that the ancient teachers that tirelessly worked on creating the works we save in ALL, would be thankful for.

Furthermore, the future generations that will be benefiting from these ideas will also be thinking of your commitment and dedication to preserve the wisdom that could have been lost without you.

Thank you, once again. And again... and again.

We just received very good news from our friends and colleagues from the Varanasi Center!

Recently the team there, held one more Internship Program. The attending people, —whom you can see here— gained knowledge about how language plays a vital role in transferring cultural heritage to future generations.

Dr. Santosh Kumar Dwivedi —whom you may remember from our previous reels— shared that this Internship, which you are helping funding, is based on the transliteration program, which follow the IAST Method.

"We teach them how transliteration helps in this field. Bridging Language and script, Preserving Pronunciation, Search and Accessibility, Colonial and Modern historical records, Cultural Exchange and Globalization." he said.

Your contribution to ALL is helping to empower a new generation of cultural stewards. Leadership in this work ensures that the transmission of Sanskrit heritage continues into the future.

And that's what Asian Legacy Library is all about!

And, as always, we would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Santosh for his dedication and meaningful work, we at ALL couldn't be happier to have him as part of the team.

Joel Crawford, Director of Technology at the Asian Legacy Library, reflects on the significance of ALL’s mission of preservation.

The ideas held within the books ALL preserves in collaboration with our partners worldwide have the potential to benefit all: scholars, practitioners, and everyday people across the world. None of this could happen without the effort and care of so many supporters, friends, and colleagues who work together to ensure the wisdom held inside ancient texts can continue to inspire and inform us all.

Thank you for making this work possible, from Joel and all of us at ALL. You can visit our library at: https://library.asianlegacylibrary.org/.

Wisdom Literature: Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra

The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra is a foundational Mahāyāna Buddhist text, traditionally presented as a dialogue between the Buddha and the bodhisattva Mahāmati, embodiment of great wisdom. Set in the mythic land of Laṅkā, the sūtra explores profound themes such as emptiness and the luminous nature of mind.

Revered across centuries, the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra was cited by major Indian philosophers and played a pivotal role in the formation of East Asian Buddhism. The text survives today in Sanskrit, Tibetan, and Chinese, and has long been regarded as expressing the heart of the words of all the Buddhas.

The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra is just one among thousands of texts that have been digitally preserved and are now openly available in ALL's online Digital Library. If you wish to explore more, you can do so by using this link:

Emma Lewis, Executive Director of the Asian Legacy Library (ALL), reflects on the enduring thread that connects ALL’s work across time.

As scanning equipment grows more sophisticated, as digital libraries expand their reach, and as new generations discover these traditions in entirely new ways, ALL's mission holds steady. Whether the work is taking place in our preservation centers in Nepal, India, or Mongolia, the foundation remains the same: to ensure that the profound literary and philosophical heritage of Asia is sustained.

Joel & Élie on the Power of Collaboration

Joel Crawford, Asian Legacy Library's (ALL) Director of Technology, and Élie Roux, Chief Technology Officer of the Buddhist Digital Resource Center (BDRC), sat down together recently in Sedona— screens open to a digitized text of the Heart Sutra.

This moment carried weight. So much of what has made the ALL Digital Library successful to date traces back directly to the tools and frameworks originally built by BDRC. This is an example of two organizations that share the same deep commitment to preserving Asia's literary and spiritual heritage, chose to build together.

ALL's Digital Library continues to grow through partnerships like this one, and we are deeply grateful to BDRC for the tools, the vision, and the spirit of open collaboration they bring to this shared mission.

Joel & Élie on the Power of Collaboration

Élie Roux, Chief Technology Officer of the Buddhist Digital Resource Center (BDRC) and Joel Crawford, Asian Legacy Library's (ALL) Director of Technology, , sat down together recently in Sedona— screens open to a digitized text of the Heart Sutra.

Meaningful collaboration looks like this in the digital preservation world: technologists from different institutions sitting side by side, looking at the same screen, working toward the same goal. The Heart Sutra, one of the most widely known and studied texts in the Buddhist canon, brings a further sense of universality to this meeting. This moment captures a doorway that opens because people like Joel and Élie are willing to share knowledge as freely as they help preserve it.

ALL's Digital Library continues to grow through partnerships like this one, and we are deeply grateful to BDRC for the tools, the vision, and the spirit of open collaboration they bring to this shared mission.

Venerable Jigme on the Seeds of the Asian Legacy Library

Elly van der Pas, or Venerable Jigme, reflects on the early vision that gave rise to what today is the Asian Legacy Library (ALL) and its sister organizations. Venerable Jigme's lifelong commitment to compassion and building bridges between cultures made her a natural ally in planting the seeds of what ALL would become.

Jigme reminds us that when wisdom is truly accessible, it transforms — not just individuals, but global culture itself. The ALL Digital Library is today the living expression of that founding vision, carrying timeless teachings preserved in the ancient libraries of India, Nepal, and Mongolia to the world.

We celebrate and give thanks to people like Venerable Jigme, who represent the possibilities of wisdom supporting and guiding action for the benefit of others 🌱
