conservation of biodiversity and aquatic resources is the need of the hour. Rivers are considered as vein for any country. In South Gujarat Tapi, River is the major river, which is considered as lifeline for this area, mainly river is used for irrigation, hydro power station, as well as for Fisheries purpose.
Today we celebrate the birthday of Tapi on the occasion of Aashadi Saptami. Tapi river is originated from Multai of Madhya Pradesh. River enters in the Gujarat near Nizar. A huge dam is constructed on the Tapi river is Vallabh Sagar Reservoir. This is the second largest reservoir in the state of Gujarat as thousands of Fisherman’s are engaged in fishing activities in Vallabh Sagar Reservoir. Due to agricultural run off, industrialisation and vast use of pesticide also domestic sewage. The water quality parameter of Tapi river is drastically deteriorating. Due to which many of the fishes are under endangered zone. It is the huge responsibility of the Fisheries scientist to conserve resources by doing and research on stock assessment and implementation of smart conservation strategies. Today Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture Kamdhenu University, Ukai under Tapi Namastubhyam initiative conducted a programme. During this programme the fish seeds of IMC are stocked in river basin. The main motive of this program is to restoring river and reviving ecosystem. Additional collector Tapi District Shri. R. R. Borad (GAS), Tapi District BJP president Shri. Suraj Vasava along with huge numbers of citizens attended the programme.
