On 24th July 2026, acting on credible source information, a joint team of Tura Police Station and CRPF conducted a special operation in Tura Hawakhana area, leading to the apprehension of a suspected drug trafficker.

The accused has been identified as Shri Toseng R. Sangma, aged 30 years, S/o Shri Talmison S. Marak, a resident of Alokpang, Bulawe, South Garo Hills.

During the operation, the accused attempted to flee and violently resisted arrest by assaulting the police team. After a brief struggle, he was successfully overpowered and taken into custody. Two police personnel sustained minor injuries during the operation, while the accused also sustained injuries during his apprehension.

Following due legal formalities, the police team recovered and seized the following items in the presence of independent witnesses:
• 11 vials containing suspected he**in (total weight: 1.49 grams)
• 7 empty vials
• Cash amounting to ₹12,060/-

Preliminary verification also revealed that the accused is a habitual offender with multiple previous cases registered under the NDPS Act, 1985 at Tura, Araimile, and Baghmara Police Stations. Charge sheets have already been filed in most of these cases, indicating his continued involvement in organised drug trafficking beyond West Garo Hills District.

A fresh case has been registered at Tura Police Station under relevant section (s) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the absconding associate and to dismantle the wider drug trafficking network operating in the district.

West Garo Hills District Police remain dedicated in our commitment to combating the menace of drugs and psychotropic substances in the district.

We urge all citizens and general public to continue sharing credible information regarding narcotics/drugs related activities in their areas and localities to the nearest Police Station, Out Post or Beat House. The identity of all informants will be kept strictly confidential.

On the night of 11.07.2026, a naka checking team of Tikirikilla PS intercepted two suspicious persons at Tikirikilla Market while they were travelling on a Bajaj Platina motorcycle without a registration number plate. The individuals were identified as:
1. Shri Minith Marak, S/o Shri Jetor Marak, R/o Vill: Teksagre PO & PS: Damal Asim, West Garo Hills District.
2. Shri Jaksram G. Momin, S/o Shri Johnmarthos S. Sangma, both residents of Raksamgre under Tikirikilla Police Station.

Both persons were brought to Tikirikilla Police Station for further enquiry. During the enquiry, the police recovered another motorcycle, a Bajaj Pulsar bearing Registration No. AS-21M-7462, from their possession.

Further verification revealed that the Bajaj Pulsar had been stolen from the Dadenggre area. In this connection, a case under relevant sections of law had already been registered at Dadenggre PS. Accordingly, both accused persons were handed over to Dadenggre Police Station for further investigation and legal action.

During the course of the ongoing investigation, the police team of Dadenggre PS conducted further follow-up operations and accordingly arrested one more accused person namely Shri Baiti A. Sangma, S/o Shri Giljan B. Marak R/o Vill: Tebronggre PO & PS: Damal Asim, West Garo Hills District. Today, the 14.07.2026, recovered another stolen motorcycle from Rongmasugre under Damal Asim PS. The investigation is continuing in connection with the above Dadenggre PS Case No.

West Garo Hills District Police remain committed to preventing vehicle theft and bringing offenders to justice. General public are requested to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious movement or information relating to stolen vehicles to the nearest Police Stations, Out Post and Beat Houses.

ANTI-INFILTRATION DRIVE AND LABOUR VERIFICATION IN WEST GARO HILLS DISTRICT.

From January 2026 till date, a total of 194 registered labourers, 562 unregistered labourers, and 578 local labourers have been thoroughly verified during multiple checks and Anti-Infiltration operation drives. All requisite legal documents viz. EPIC, Aadhar etc. of such immigrant labours are being thoroughly checked and verified at various construction sites in the district beside verification on engagement of child labours.

The Special Squad team, operating consistently across West Garo Hills District in coordination with Labour Department and other concerned stakeholders, has succeeded in screening and detecting a significant number of unregistered and suspected illegal migrants who were found working without proper documentation.

West Garo Hills District Police successfully recovered and returned 42 (Forty two) nos. missing mobile phones to their rightful owners through the dedicated efforts of Head Constable T.R. Marak and Head Constable D.T. Sangma of Tura Police Station within a span of last 8 (eight) months. HC T.R. Marak recovered 24 Mobile phones, while HC D.T. Sangma recovered 18.

West Garo Hills District Police urges all citizens to promptly report any lost or missing mobile phones and other valuable belongings to the nearest Police Station, Out Post or Beat House. Timely reporting greatly enhances the chances of successful recovery and return of the property to its rightful owner.

FAKE NEWS CLARIFICATION

It has come to the notice of West Garo Hills District Police that a video is being circulated on social media platforms by an NGO called ADIL from Williamnagar, claiming to be related to a local incident.

It is to be informed to all general public and concerned citizen, that the said video does not pertain to any part of the region. The video appears to have been originally broadcast by a Bangladesh-based news channel, namely Jamuna TV, and is being wrongly projected in a different context.

Further, it is also to be informed that there is also a place named Phulbari in Bangladesh. Such similarity in place names has been deliberately or mistakenly used to mislead the public.

Therefore, the video currently being circulated is misleading and falsely attributed.

Furthermore, the general public and all concerned are hereby advised not to believe or share such unverified contents.
All citizens are requested to rely only on official sources of information and maintain peace and harmony in the region. Strict action shall be taken as per relevant sections of law against those found spreading rumours or fake news.

FAKE NEWS ALERT

It has come to the notice of West Garo Hills District Police that a message is being circulated on social media by the Facebook user Clebath Ch Sangma claiming that a house in Chibinang, Chandigri, West Garo Hills District has been burnt by Non-Tribals and calling upon people to gather and confront.

In this regard, it is hereby clarified that the said information is false, misleading, and intended to create unrest and disturb public peace in the district. As per the ground inputs, there is no confirmed incident that has taken place in the area as being claimed in the circulated message.

The general public and all concerned citizens are hereby strongly advised not to believe or forward such unverified information. Any attempt to spread rumours, incite violence, or disturb law & order in the district will be dealt with strictly as per relevant section (s) of law.

West Garo Hills District Police appeals to all citizens to remain calm, maintain peace, and verify facts from official sources before sharing any information on social media platforms etc.
