Central Government Failed to Bridge Education–Employment Gap; 65% Youth Power Ignored in Union Budget 2026
Young Democrats strongly condemn the Central Government for its persistent failure to practically bridge the widening gap between education and employment in India. Despite tall claims and repeated assurances, the Union Budget 2026 once again failed to place India’s youth at the Centre of economic and policy priorities.
India stands at a critical demographic moment, with nearly 65% of its population being youth. This immense youth power should have been treated as the country’s greatest strength. However, the Union Budget 2026 largely confined youth empowerment to policy jargon, committees, and future promises, without ensuring concrete job creation, secure employment, or a credible education-to-employment framework.
Every year, millions of educated young people pass out of universities and colleges, only to face unemployment, contractual work, or jobs far below their qualifications. The disconnect between academic curricula, skill development programmes and real employment opportunities continues to widen. The budget failed to address this structural crisis with clear allocations, accountability, or time-bound employment targets.
Young Democrats believe that ignoring the aspirations of such a vast youth population is not merely an economic oversight but a serious social and constitutional failure. A nation cannot progress by sidelining its youth and reducing their future to uncertainty and insecurity.
We demand that the Central Government urgently shift its approach from symbolic announcements to a rights-based, youth-centric employment policy. Strengthening public education, filling vacant posts, investing in labor-intensive sectors and ensuring that higher education genuinely leads to dignified employment must become immediate priorities.
India’s future depends on its youth. Any budget that fails to empower them fails the nation itself.
