Day of the Languages of the Peoples of Russia Observed in Trivandrum
The Day of the Languages of the Peoples of Russia was observed in Trivandrum under the auspices of the Russian centre of the Russkiy Mir Foundation and Honorary Consulate of Russia in Trivandrum
Aleksandr Fomin, Deputy Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, Mr Fomin highlighted the remarkable linguistic and cultural diversity of the Russian Federation, which is home to numerous peoples speaking many different languages.
In his address, Ratheesh C. Nair, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Thiruvananthapuram, noted that 2026 is being celebrated as the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia. He said that a number of programmes are being organised in Kerala to introduce Indian audiences to the cultural and literary diversity of Russia. As part of these initiatives, selected poems of Musa Jalil, the celebrated Tatar poet, and Rasul Gamzatov, the renowned poet of Dagestan, will be translated and published in Malayalam.
Anastasia Pismennaya, attache of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, also participated in the programme.
The programme also highlighted the role of cultural and literary exchanges in strengthening the longstanding friendship and people-to-people relations between India and Russia.
