The Green Protocol awareness campaign for the upcoming Attukal Pongala festival was formally inaugurated on 27/02/2026 at Attukal Temple. The announcement vehicle for promoting Green Protocol guidelines was flagged off by the Honorable Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, Adv. V V Rajesh.
The programme was conducted in the presence of the Assistant Coordinators (IEC & SWM) and Program Officer of Suchitwa Mission, Health inspectors and officials of Corporation, officials from Attukal Temple including the President, Resource persons, Young Professional and sanitation workers of the Corporation.
While flagging off the vehicle, the Mayor emphasized the importance of strictly adhering to Green Protocol guidelines during the Attukal Pongala festival. He urged devotees and the general public to cooperate with the Corporation and Suchitwa Mission in ensuring a clean, eco-friendly, and waste-free celebration. He highlighted that collective responsibility and public participation are essential to maintain hygiene and environmental sustainability during the festival, which witnesses the participation of lakhs of devotees from across the state and beyond.
The awareness vehicle will travel through various parts of the city, spreading messages on waste segregation, avoidance of single-use plastics, proper disposal of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, and maintaining cleanliness in public spaces during the festival days.
As part of Swachh Survekshan 2025-26, this initiative reflects the joint commitment of the Municipal Corporation, Suchitwa Mission, and Attukal Temple authorities to conduct the Attukal Pongala in a safe, hygienic, and environmentally responsible manner.
