The Vice Chairman, J&K Lake Conservation & Management Authority (LCMA), Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, today conducted an extensive tour of the NPL Bund and several interior mohallas of Dal Lake, including Guchi Mohalla, Tind Mohalla, Bhat Mohalla and other adjoining areas.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman reviewed the ongoing conservation and maintenance works being carried out in and around the lake. He also inspected the repair and restoration of various culverts to ensure smooth public movement and convenience during the ongoing Muharram observances.
Mr. Shah emphasized the need for sustained efforts to facilitate the public, address local concerns and preserve the ecological health of Dal Lake.

J&K LCMA celebrated World Environment Day 2026 in collaboration with Crescent Public School, Srinagar, to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students.
The programme featured awareness sessions, poster making activities, and a plantation drive. Vice Chairman JK LCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah (JKAS), who attended the programme as Chief Guest, emphasized the importance of protecting Kashmir’s lakes, wetlands, forests, and water resources while addressing the gathering. He encouraged students to become active partners in conservation efforts.
The event concluded with a pledge by students and participants to adopt environmentally responsible practices and contribute towards a greener future.

The Vice Chairman, J&K Lake Conservation & Management Authority (LCMA), Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah, JKAS, today conducted an inspection of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Habak to review its operational status.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman held detailed discussions with concerned officers and technical staff regarding treatment efficiency and measures aimed at ensuring the effective management of wastewater entering the lake ecosystem. He stressed the importance of maintaining optimal performance of the STP for the protection and preservation of Dal Lake and other associated water bodies.
Subsequently, the Vice Chairman visited the parking facility near Nishat to assess its current status and review infrastructure provisions related to public convenience and traffic management. He directed the concerned officials to ensure proper upkeep and efficient utilization of the facility in the larger public interest.
The Vice Chairman emphasized that the Authority remains dedicated to implementing measures that contribute to the preservation and enhancement of Kashmir's invaluable water resources and natural heritage.

In view of Eid-ul-Azha, Vice Chairman J&K LCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah (JKAS), today visited Hazratbal and adjoining areas to review cleanliness and lake cleaning operations being carried out in and around the lake.
During the visit, necessary directions were issued to the concerned officers to ensure round the clock monitoring of sanitation and cleaning operations. The Vice Chairman also appealed to the general public to cooperate in protecting water bodies and maintaining environmental hygiene during the festive occasion.
The public has been informed not to dispose off qurbani waste, animal remains, blood, or any other residues into water bodies, lakes, nallahs, drains, or inflow channels.

Today, on the occasion of World Biodiversity Conservation Day, JKLCMA organized an awareness programme at Hadura village to promote the conservation of biodiversity and encourage sustainable farming practices.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chairman, JKLCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah emphasized the urgent need to protect the planet’s rich biodiversity and adopt eco-friendly agricultural practices for the wellbeing of future generations. He urged farmers to move towards organic farming methods to maintain ecological balance and ensure healthy agricultural production.
During the programme, farmers were made aware of the harmful effects of the excessive use of chemical fertilizers, fungicides, and pesticides on soil health, water resources, and the environment. The importance of sustainable and environmentally responsible farming practices was highlighted in detail.
In collaboration with NAFED, JKLCMA also distributed 250 kgs of organic fertilizer among local farmers to encourage the use of organic alternatives and reduce dependence on synthetic fertilizers.

Vice Chairman, JK LCMA, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah today visited Tailbal, Batapora, Habak Shanpora and Baghi Chandpora to inspect various inflow channels of Dal Lake and land acquired by the Authority, besides reviewing its present status on the ground. The Vice Chairman was accompanied by Collector, Naib Tehsildar, Patwaris and other senior officers /officials.
During the visit, the Vice Chairman stressed the importance of proper maintenance of inflow channels, protection of Authority land from encroachments, and ensuring planned development in environmentally sensitive areas.
He also directed the officers to strengthen monitoring and take necessary measures for preservation and sustainable management of Authority assets.
