Sopore Police Bust Gambling at Public Place; Four Persons Apprehended

Sopore, July 27, 2026:

Acting on credible information, Sopore Police busted a gambling activity being conducted at a public place near Government Middle School, Janwara, Sopore, and apprehended four persons involved in illegal gambling.

A police team from Police Post Warpora promptly raided the spot and apprehended:

1. Ashiq Hussain Mir S/O Ghulam Rasool Mir
2. Aijaz Ahmad Mir S/O Wali Mohammad
3. Bashir Ahmad Chopan S/O Mohammad Sadiq Chopan
4. Mohammad Altaf Mir S/O Ghulam Mohammad Mir

All residents of Janwara, Sopore.

During the raid, stake money along with playing cards was recovered and seized from the spot.

Accordingly, FIR No. 183/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and further investigation has been taken up.

Sopore Police reiterates its commitment to maintaining public order and taking firm action against gambling and other anti-social activities. Strict legal action shall continue against all those found involved.

Anti-Drug Enforcement Drive Continues in Sopore Under Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan; One Drug Peddler Arrested

Sopore, July 17, 2026:

In continuation of the ongoing anti-drug enforcement drive under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police apprehended a drug peddler during patrolling in the jurisdiction of Police Post Bus Stand.

During patrolling at Neharpora, Sopore, a suspicious individual was intercepted and subjected to personal search. During the search, psychotropic substance was recovered from his possession and seized in accordance with due legal procedure.

The accused has been identified as:

Abid Fayaz Shah, S/O Fayaz Ahmad Shah, R/O Neharpora Bagh Ali Street Sopore.

Accordingly, FIR No. 174/2026 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and wider network involved.

Sopore Police reiterated that strict action against drug peddlers and traffickers will continue across the district. Every effort is being made to dismantle the narcotics ecosystem and prevent the spread of drugs among the youth.

Sopore Police remains committed to the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan and will continue its sustained efforts to build a safer, healthier and drug-free society.

Sopore Police Attach Properties Worth Over ₹1.23 Crore of Absconding Drug Peddler Under NDPS Act; Crackdown on Narco-Financial Network Intensifies

Sopore, July 13, 2026:

In a major action against the narcotics ecosystem under the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police have attached two immovable properties worth over ₹1.23 crore belonging to an absconding and notorious drug peddler under the provisions of Section 68F of the NDPS Act, 1985.

The attached properties comprise:

A double-storey residential house with boundary wall, and Land measuring 1 Kanal 10 Marlas under Survey No. 365 Min,

having a combined value of over ₹1.23 crore.

The properties belong to *Mohammad Ashraf Mir @ Ashu S/O Late Farooq Ahmad Mir R/O Jamia Qadeem, Sopore, presently residing at Krankshivan Colony, Nageen Bagh-B, Sopore.

The attachment has been made in connection with FIR No. 23/2026 of Police Station Sopore, after a detailed financial investigation revealed that the properties had been acquired through proceeds generated from illicit narcotics trafficking. The attachment proceedings were executed in the presence of independent witnesses in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act.

The accused is absconding in the said NDPS case. A Hue and Cry Notice/Look Out Notice has already been issued against him. He is also involved in multiple NDPS cases, indicating his continued involvement in drug trafficking activities.

With this action, Sopore Police has further intensified its crackdown on the financial infrastructure sustaining the narcotics trade. By attaching illegally acquired assets, the objective is to deprive drug traffickers of the proceeds of crime and dismantle the economic foundations of the narcotics network.

Sopore Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse. Stringent legal as well as financial action shall continue against all those involved in the narcotics trade.

The action forms part of the sustained efforts under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan to eradicate the drug menace and build a safer, healthier and drug-free society.
