Sopore Police Conduct Multi-Location Enforcement & Awareness Drive Under 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan

Sopore, June 01, 2026:
As part of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police carried out a series of coordinated enforcement and community outreach activities at multiple locations across the district to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and promote drug-free communities.

An inspection of medical and chemist shops falling within the jurisdiction of Police Post Fidarpora was conducted. During the drive, sale records, prescription registers, stock registers, and other relevant documents relating to scheduled and psychotropic drugs were scrutinized to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940. Shop owners were sensitized about their legal responsibilities and warned against any unauthorized sale or diversion of habit-forming medicines.

In a focused drive around educational institutions, Sopore Police inspected shops and commercial establishments in the vicinity of Government Degree College Sopore. Proprietors were sensitized and warned against the sale of to***co products, e-cigarettes, gutka, and other intoxicating substances to students, in violation of the provisions of the COTPA Act and other applicable laws. The importance of maintaining a drug-free and to***co-free environment around educational institutions was emphasized.

Parallel inspections were also carried out at medical shops in Main Town Sopore, where records and stocks of scheduled medicines were verified to prevent misuse and diversion of pharmaceutical drugs. Shopkeepers were directed to dispense medicines strictly against valid prescriptions issued by registered medical practitioners.

To strengthen community participation in the anti-drug campaign, a village-level awareness programme was organized at Seer Jagir under the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo. The programme witnessed active participation from Lumberdars, Chowkidars, and local residents. Participants were sensitized about the social, health, and economic consequences of drug abuse and were encouraged to act as responsible stakeholders by reporting suspicious activities and supporting efforts aimed at counseling and rehabilitation of affected youth.

Anti-Drug Enforcement Drive Continues in Sopore under Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan; Wild Cannabis Destroyed.

Sopore, June 01, 2026:
In continuation of the ongoing anti-drug enforcement drive under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police carried out action against the wild growth of narcotic plants in the jurisdiction of Police Post Putkha.

On receipt of credible information regarding the presence of wild cannabis (b**g) at village Choora, a joint team comprising officials from Police, Excise and Revenue Departments conducted a destruction drive at the said location.

During the drive, wild cannabis spread over the area was identified and destroyed on the spot after completing all necessary legal formalities. Samples were also collected and seized for further analysis.

Sopore Police reiterated that cultivation, possession, transportation or illegal use of narcotic substances is a serious offence under the NDPS Act and strict legal action shall be taken against those found involved.

Sopore Police reaffirmed its commitment under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan to eliminate the drug menace at its roots and ensure a safer, healthier and drug-free society.

Sopore Police Intensifies Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan; Chemist Inspections Conducted, Village-Level Awareness Programme Held at Aalibagh Hygam

As part of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police carried out a series of enforcement and community outreach activities today to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and promote drug-free communities.

Sopore Police conducted thorough inspections of chemist and druggist shops in Chankhan and Naseem Bagh areas falling within the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo. The drive aimed to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act and prevent the illegal sale or diversion of psychotropic and habit-forming drugs. Sale records, prescriptions, and other relevant documents were scrutinized, while shop owners were sensitized about their legal responsibilities and the consequences of violations.

In continuation of the campaign, a village-level awareness programme was organized at Aalibagh, Hygam under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan. The programme witnessed active participation from Numberdars, Chowkidars, Panchayat members, and other respected citizens of the area.

During the programme, participants were sensitized about the social, health, and economic consequences of drug abuse. Community members were encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support efforts aimed at counseling, rehabilitation, and reintegration of affected youth. The importance of keeping villages and local communities free from the menace of drugs was also emphasized.

Sopore Police remains committed to a two-pronged strategy under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan—strict enforcement against drug peddlers and traffickers, coupled with sustained public awareness and community participation.

Sopore Police Intensifies Checking of Medical Shops in Tarzoo Under 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.

Sopore, May 30, 2026:
In continuation of the Government’s commitment to make Jammu & Kashmir drug-free, Sopore Police today intensified surprise inspections of medical shops and chemists in Tarzoo area as part of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.

During the checking, records of sale and purchase of scheduled drugs, psychotropic substances, and other medicines were thoroughly scrutinized. CCTV footage, sale registers, and prescription compliance were also verified in line with NDPS Act, 1985 and Drugs & Cosmetics Act.

Sale records of habit-forming drugs like codeine-based syrups, alprazolam, and tramadol were checked for proper documentation.

Shopkeepers were briefed on legal provisions of Section 8, 21, 22 & 29 of NDPS Act and directed to strictly adhere to prescription norms.

Public was sensitized about the ill effects of drug abuse and encouraged to share information on illegal sale of drugs with police.

Sopore Police is fully committed to the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir mission. Medical shops play a crucial role, and any violation in sale of scheduled drugs will be dealt with strictly under law. We appeal to chemists to act responsibly and to citizens to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities.

Sopore Police reiterated that similar drives will continue across all areas of the sub-division during the 100-day campaign. Legal action shall be initiated against any medical establishment found violating rules.

Traffic Advisory – Sopore Town (Eid-ul-Adha)

In view of Eid-ul-Adha congregational prayers at Eidgah Noorgah Sopore and Khanqah-e-Moula Sopore, and considering the expected movement of a large number of people, the following traffic restrictions and diversions shall remain in place to ensure smooth movement and avoid congestion:

🚫 Traffic Restrictions & Diversions

1. Only one-way traffic shall be allowed from Main Chowk Sopore towards Eidgah Noorgah via Hathishah Bridge due to heavy pedestrian movement towards Eidgah.
2. No vehicle shall be allowed from Sofi Akbar Crossing towards Hathishah Bridge.
3. All vehicles moving from Town towards Eidgah shall park only at designated parking areas near Eidgah Noorgah.
4. Vehicles coming from Tarzoo–Ningli axis shall park at the designated parking area near PHC Building.
5. No vehicle parking shall be allowed on the stretch from Main Chowk Sopore towards Hathishah Bridge–Sofi Akbar Crossing axis.
6. Vehicles coming from Amargarh–Chankhan axis via Sofi Akbar Road towards Eidgah Noorgah shall also park at designated parking areas near Eidgah. No roadside parking shall be allowed on Sofi Akbar Road.
7. After Eid Namaz, only pedestrian movement shall be allowed from Sofi Akbar Crossing towards Hathishah.
8. After culmination of Eid Namaz, all traffic shall be diverted via Sofi Akbar Road from Sofi Akbar Crossing towards Chankhan only. No opposite movement shall be allowed till complete dispersal from Eidgah Noorgah.
9. People offering prayers at Khanqah-e-Moula shall preferably move on foot from Hathishah towards Khanqah-e-Moula. However, LMVs shall be allowed from Chankhan Bridge towards Khanqah-e-Moula.
10. No heavy vehicles shall be allowed from Sopore Main Chowk upto Eidgah Noorgah and from Chankhan Bridge upto Eidgah Noorgah till culmination of Eid prayers.

⏰ Timing of Restrictions:
Restrictions shall remain in force from 0500 hrs till culmination and dispersal of Eid congregational prayers.

🙏 Public Advisory

• Public is requested to avoid roadside parking and use only designated parking areas.
• People residing in nearby areas are advised to prefer movement on foot towards Eidgah Noorgah and Khanqah-e-Moula.
• Public is also requested to carpool and cooperate with Police and volunteers on duty to ensure smooth movement and avoid inconvenience during Eid prayers.

Sopore Police Conduct Joint Market Checking Drives on the Eve of Eid-ul-Adha

Sopore, May 25, 2026:
In view of the forthcoming Eid-ul-Adha, Sopore Police, in coordination with the Revenue Department and Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, intensified market checking drives across Police District Sopore to curb overpricing, black marketing, hoarding, and sale of substandard or expired commodities.

A joint market checking drive was conducted at Achabal and Reban Markets by Sopore Police along with the Naib Tehsildar Watergam. During the inspection, several shopkeepers were found violating trade norms, including non-display of rate lists and unhygienic practices. On-spot fines were imposed on the violators and a total fine of ₹2600 was realized.

Another joint checking drive was carried out at Warpora Market by Sopore Police along with the Tehsildar Dangerpora. The team inspected essential commodity outlets, mutton shops, and provisional stores. Several shopkeepers were found violating government-notified rates and other regulations and were fined on the spot.

Similarly, a joint market checking drive was conducted at Main Market Dangiwacha by Sopore Police along with the Naib Tehsildar Dangiwacha and Tehsil Supply Officer Dangiwacha. During the inspection, expired food items and other unfit commodities were seized and destroyed on the spot in the presence of the checking team. Shopkeepers were strictly warned against overpricing, hoarding, and sale of expired goods. A fine of ₹2700 was realized from the violators.

These pre-Eid market checking drives are aimed at ensuring availability of quality essential commodities to the public at government-approved rates. Any attempt at profiteering, hoarding, or endangering public health through sale of expired or substandard items shall invite strict legal action.

During the drive, wild poppy straw spread over the area was identified and destroyed on the spot after completing all necessary legal formalities. Samples were also collected and seized for further analysis.

Anti-Drug Enforcement Drive Continues in Sopore under Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan; One Drug Peddler Arrested.

Sopore, May 23, 2026:
In continuation of the ongoing anti-drug enforcement drive under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police apprehended a drug peddler during patrolling in the jurisdiction of Police Post Bus Stand.

During patrolling near Grid Station Seeloo, a suspicious individual was intercepted and apprehended. Upon personal search, heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession and seized as per due legal procedure.

The accused has been identified as:

Yawar-ul-Islam Naikoo, S/O Khazir Mohammad Naikoo, R/O Seeloo Sopore.

Accordingly, FIR No. 125/2026 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved.

Sopore Police reiterated that strict enforcement against drug peddlers continues across the district and all those involved in narcotics trafficking will be dealt with firmly under law.

Continuing crackdown under , Sopore Police obtained court orders under Section 52A NDPS Act for disposal/auction of another conveyance seized in NDPS case FIR No. 36/2026 PS Dangiwacha.

This is the 7th vehicle being disposed of in narcotics cases.
