A dedicated team of experts from National Health Mission, J&K and National TB Elimination Programme Kashmir embarked on a joint supportive supervision visit to District Baramulla to oversee the implementation of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme. The visit, which took place on 18th and 19th May 2023, aimed to assess the progress, identify challenges, and provide guidance for effective TB elimination measures.
The National TB Elimination Programme, a nationwide initiative, strives to eliminate tuberculosis as a public health problem by implementing evidence-based interventions and ensuring quality care for all TB patients. To ensure the program's success, regular supportive supervision visits are conducted to monitor the implementation at the grassroots level and offer support to healthcare providers and stakeholders.
The joint team comprised experts from the National Health Mission and National TB Elimination Programme, who brought their diverse experiences and perspectives to strengthen the district's TB control efforts. Together, they observed various aspects of the program, including diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and overall healthcare infrastructure.
During the visit, the team engaged in interactive sessions with healthcare providers, program managers, laboratory personnel, community health workers, and other key stakeholders involved in TB control. These discussions facilitated the exchange of knowledge, identification of bottlenecks, and the development of strategies to address challenges faced in the district.
The joint supportive supervision team expressed their appreciation for the dedication and hard work demonstrated by healthcare providers and program implementers in Baramulla. They acknowledged the progress made in implementing the NTEP and commended the district's commitment to achieving the program's objectives.
While recognizing the achievements, the team also highlighted areas that require further attention. These included strengthening laboratory services, ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment initiation, improving the quality of data management systems, and enhancing community engagement and awareness.
The team provided valuable recommendations and technical support to address the identified gaps and enhance the effectiveness of the Programme in Baramulla. They emphasized the importance of collaboration, training, and ongoing supervision to sustain and scale up the efforts for TB Elimination.
The joint supportive supervision visit to Baramulla concluded on a positive note, with both the visiting team and the district health authorities expressing their commitment to work together in achieving the goal of a TB-free Baramulla. They acknowledged the significance of such collaborative efforts in eliminating tuberculosis as a major public health concern. They visited District TB Centre - Sopore, SDH Sopore, HWC Nowpora, HWC Delina, SDH Kreeri, SDH Kunzer and various Tuberculosis Units and Designated Microscopy Centres.
It is pertinent to mention the team was headed by Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Baba - Assistant Programme Manager - NHM, J&K.
