Crazy growth! looks like the trees are fed with growth steroids!
This is a classic example of how fast trees can grow when soil preparation is excellent and watering is consistent along with w**d removal and mild pruning.
Anyone who sees this will never have any doubts about this method of forest creation. I noticed a lot of butterflies and bees apart from countless varieties of insects.
It is to be noted that there was a mini forest of Subabul(Soundal in tamil) and Juliflora(Seema Karuvelam) along with other invasive species prior to this forest.
Probably that increased the fertility of the soil naturally too...
Excellent work by Principal Dr.Arivazhagan, Mr.Deenadayalan and the gardeners of Mepco.
The next forest with approximately 6000 trees is getting ready.

This is the best area. Almost all trees have grown well. Some trees have grown above 35 feet. The trees around the eucalyptus tree also have grown well shattering the myth that eucalyptus trees will not let other trees grow.

Phase 1 - 2 years and 9 months. If you notice the trees appear solid and a few species seem to dominate the area. We stopped pruning and maintenance. Watering is done randomly. The growth in this is not as consistent as in the later phases. Yet nothing to complain about.
The so-called Singapore cherry tree is not suitable for Miyawaki as it grows very fast and forms a thick canopy that inhibits the growth of other trees.

170 Trees - Sub collector Bungalow, Sivakasi- 15th October 2020.
Mr. Dinesh Kumar IAS a great nature lover allowed us to set up a small forest in their quarters as a trial project.
Mr. Abiruben, Mr. Senthil kumar, Mr.Venkatesan, Mr. Giri and Mr. Maran were present during the plantation.
About 49 species were planted and subsequently we plan to plant another 30 trees to make it denser.

700 Trees - Viswanatham Village - 111th October 2020 -Created entirely by the efforts of Viswavanam team. We just helped them with the plants. This again was created in a small pond belonging to their Shiva temple.
Viswavanam team has been spearheading the restoration of water bodies in their village.

Soil preparation was done in a slightly different way in this phase. The bottom layer was filled with waste pallets and the middle layer was filled immediately after the first layer was covered. This is very different from what we do normally. Usually, we wait for at least a few months after the first layer is filled.
The quality of soil preparation is much lesser this time and we also plan not to water these plants at a lesser frequency after a few months. We have selected a lot more native species and drought-resistant species in this lot. We would like to see how these plants grow in this environment. A kind of experiment...
