On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Management Day, 2026, 6 nos of Special Gram Sabha were organized by Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Cachar under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao component of Mission Shakti with the coordination of CEO, Cachar Zilla Parishad, Silchar, Assam. The program was conducted in 6 nos of Gram Panchayat offices of Dayapur GP under Udharbond Dev.Block, Kashipur GP under Rongpur Dev. Block, Kalain GP under Kalain Dev. Block,Harinagar GP under Rajabazar Dev. Block, Katigorah GP under Katigorah Dev. Block and Irongmara GP under Borjalenga Dev. Block. The programme aimed to strengthen women’s and children’s participation in local governance and community decision-making.

During the Sabha, discussions were held on important issues such as menstrual hygiene, health, sanitation, and the challenges faced by women and adolescent girls. Participants actively shared their concerns and proposed possible solutions. The key issues and recommendations identified during the discussions will be submitted to the respective GP officials for necessary action and include the points in the GPDP.

The programme was attended by the GP secretary, President, PRI members, Supervisors, Teachers, BPM-ASRLM,ASHA Workers, Anganwadi Workers, Self-Help Group (SHG) members, adolescent girls and Team DHEW officials whose active participation contributed to meaningful discussions and community engagement.

Day Against Superstitious Beliefs Observed

The Day Against Superstitious Beliefs was observed at Harinagar Gaon Panchayat to commemorate the death anniversary of social activist Dr. Birubala Rabha. The programme aimed to create awareness against harmful superstitious practices, promote scientific thinking, and encourage a rational mindset in society.

The programme was attended by several dignitaries including the Sub-Inspector of Police (UB), Joypur Police Station; Smti Madhabi Barman, GP President, Harinagar GP; Vivekanda Saha, Representative of CDPO Rajabazar; Shri F. Lokenath Singha, LADC, District Legal Services Authority, Lakhipur; Shri Debajit Barman, Principal of PM Shri Indra Singh Rajbonshi High School, Harinagar; Shri Bitom Kemprai, GP Secretary; Shri Gaurango Thakur, Ward Member; along with officials from DHEW, Cachar.

Local residents, SHG members, Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs) actively participated in the programme.

Speakers paid tribute to Dr. Birubala Rabha for her tireless efforts against witch-hunting and social evils. Discussions focused on spreading awareness about the negative impact of superstition and the importance of logical and scientific thinking.

The programme concluded with a strong message that superstition has no place in a progressive society and that every individual has the right to live with dignity and safety.

“On the occasion of Republic Day 2026, a tableau representing Women and Child Development, Cachar highlighting themes of women empowerment, child welfare, education, nutrition, and inclusive growth. The tableau showcased government initiatives and social messages aimed at building a safe, healthy, and progressive society. The dedicated efforts and coordinated planning of the concerned officials were highly appreciated.The impactful visual presentation and meaningful portrayal earned the department First Prize in the Republic Day parade.”
