Fifteen Days Training programme/ Refresher Course for newly engaged Supporting Staff under LADCS and Para Legal Volunteers commenced today.
In compliance with the directions issued by the Hon’ble Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority and the directions issued by Worthy Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Training Programme cm Refresher Course for Supporting Staff under LADCS and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of District shopian was commenced on today, 02.06.2026.
The programme was inaugurated by *Worthy Chairman, DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge), shopian.* In his inaugural address, the Worthy Chairman emphasized the pivotal role of Supporting Staff and PLVs in strengthening the legal aid delivery mechanism at the grassroots level and ensuring access to justice for the marginalized and weaker sections of society.
The programme aims to sensitize participants about the NALSA and J&K SLSA structure, LADC Scheme 2022, duties of Supporting Staff and PLVs, and their role in improving legal aid delivery. The programme is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of supporting staff and PLVs, enabling them to provide effective legal aid to the marginalized sections of society.
Key sessions will also focus on communication skills, identification of cases by PLVs, schemes for women, children, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups, along with group discussions for improving legal aid delivery. Eminent resource persons including Judicial Officers of District Court shopian, Mr. Mudasar Farooq, Secretary DLSA shopian, and Adv. Rafie Ahmad Ganie, Chief LADC, Shopian, will conduct the sessions.

The Training programme/ Refresher Course is expected to benefit the newly engaged supporting staff and PLVs by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide effective legal aid to the marginalized sections

Shopian, May 30, 2026 – The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian, in collaboration with the Education Department Shopian, today organized an awareness program to mark Anti-To***co Day, observed under the theme “Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction.”

The event, held here today, witnessed active participation from students and NSS volunteers, who took a collective pledge to quit smoking and support the anti-to***co movement.

The primary objective of the program was to raise awareness among students about the severe health risks caused by to***co use and its detrimental impact on the environment.

The resource persons for the program included:

· Shahnawaz Raina, Deputy Chief of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC)
· Aijaz Ahmad Kuttay, Para-Legal Volunteer (PLV)

Their insightful sessions highlighted the deceptive marketing tactics of the to***co industry and emphasized the legal and social responsibilities of young citizens in combating ni****ne addiction.

District legal services authority shopian in collaboration with Education Department today organised an awareness programme on Legal Service Unit for Children (LSUC) at HSS Sedow shopian

The program was held under the Directions of Chairman, DLSA Shopian (Principal District & sessions judge) Mr. Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary and Secretary DLSA shopian, Mr Mudasar Farooq. The programme aimed to spread awareness among students and the local community about the rights of children and the legal assistance available under the LSUC initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Khushboo Manzoor highlighted the importance of legal awareness among children and stressed the need to protect child rights through timely legal support and guidance. She also encouraged students to remain aware of their rights and responsibilities.
Special reference was made to the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, POCSO Act, 2012, and Right to Education Act, 2009. The students were sensitized about 15100 (NALSA Helpline), and the role of DLSA in providing immediate free and competent legal assistance.
The event witnessed active participation from students, teaching staff, PLV Parvaiz ah was also present.

District legal services authority shopian in collaboration with Education Department today organised an awareness programme on NALSA (Scheme on Access to Justice for Victims of Human Wildlife Conflict 2025) at HS Batafojan shopian.

The program was held under the Directions of Chairman, DLSA Shopian (Principal District & sessions judge) Mr. Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary and Secretary DLSA shopian, Mr Mudasar Farooq. Speaking on the occasion ALADC Saheefa Sidiq deliberated that the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) launched multiple targeted legal aid initiatives in 2025 to ensure access to justice for marginalized and vulnerable commuties across India. These major schemes cover targeted advocacy, grassroots awareness, and specialized support for victims and affected populations. She explained to the participants that this scheme is designed to provide specialized legal support, assistance and compensation advice to individuals and families affected by human-wildlife conflicts. She pointed out that human-wildlife conflict is a pressing challenge that intertwines environmental conservation, livelihood security, and the fundamental right to justice, for communities living in forest-fringe and wildlife-rich areas, such encounters are not rare accidents but recurring threats to life, dignity, and economic wellbeing. the conflict not only affects the human-wildlife but also an issue of sustainable development.
She emphasised that the scheme seeks not only to secure relief and rehabilitation for human victims but also to ensure that the measures taken align with our constitutional duty to safeguard forests and wildlife, fostering harmony between human needs and ecological balance. Students of HS Batafojan also spoke on the event.

District legal services authority shopian in collaboration with Education Department today organised an awareness programme on Drug Abuse and Legal Framework at HS Chanchamarg Shopian.
The program was held under the Directions of Chairman, DLSA Shopian (Principal District & sessions judge) Mr. Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary and Secretary DLSA shopian, Mr Mudasar Farooq with the objective of creating awareness regarding the menace of drug abuse and its harmful impacts.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy LADC Dawood Ah Khan deliberated upon the causes and consequences of drug abuse. He high lightened the physical mental and social impacts of drug abuse, its effects on health and brain of the teenagers and how this menace has long term impact on academics, career opportunities. He explained that addiction is medical condition rather than a personal failure. Risk factors include family history, trauma, early use, and mental health issues like anxiety and depression. He emphasized that this menace can be overcome by providing education and awareness, seeking professional help, distracting oneself from drug urges and by participating in in preventive programs, indulging in sports and getting appropriate treatments.

In addition to this ALADC Adv Amir Ayoub sensitized the participants about the silent provisions of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) act, 1985, including the stringent punishments prescribed for offenses relating to illicit trafficking and consumption drugs. He encouraged the youth to channel their energy towards constructive activities, sports and skill development to contribute towards building a healthy and drug-free society and how Legal Services Authority provide legal awareness, free legal aid and rehabilitation support to the victims of drug abuse.

District Legal Services Authority Shopian in collaboration with Health Department today organised awareness Programme on Rights of Persons Living With HIV/AIDS at District Hospital Shopian.

The program was held under the directions of Chairman, DLSA Shopian (Principal District & sessions judge) Mr. Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary and Secretary DLSA Shopian, Mr Mudasar Farooq with the objective of creating awareness regarding the rights of persons with HIV/AIDS under law.
Speaking on the occasion ALADC Adv Sajad Ah Najar highlighted the medical aspects of HIV/AIDS, modes of transmission and prevention, importance of timely diagnoses and treatment and the role of awareness in removing stigma. He emphasized non-discrimination, the right to medical treatment, and strict confidentiality, as outlined in key protection frameworks like the HIV/ AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act 2017.
He emphasised that persons living with HIV/AIDS, deserves equal respect, care and opportunities in society and that compassionate from healthcare workers and community is essential for effective care and support and the role of District Legal Services Authority for providing free and competent legal aid.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by medical superintendent Dr Arshad Hussain Quadri by appreciating the efforts of DLSA in conducting such awareness programmes for the benefit of community. District legal services authority shopian in collaboration with Education Department today organised awareness program on awareness programme on J&K Victim Compensation scheme 2013 and 2019 at HSS Kanjiullar shopian.
The program was held under the directions of Chairman, DLSA Shopian (Principal District & sessions judge) Mr. Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary and Secretary DLSA shopian, Mr Mudasar Farooq with the objective of creating awareness among students, teachers regarding the rights of victims of crime and the compensation available to them under law.
Speaking on the occasion ALADC Adv Meenu highlighted that the J&K Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013 was introduced to provide compensation to victims who suffered loss or injury as a result of criminal acts, whereas the Victim Compensation Scheme, 2019 expanded the scope of relief by covering more categories of offences and increasing the amount of compensation for victims of heinous crimes.
The participants were informed that the 2019 Scheme includes compensation for victims of offences such as r**e, gang r**e, acid attacks, custodial violence, human trafficking, grievous injuries, loss of limb, mental trauma and other serious offences. She also explained the role of the District Legal Services Authority and State Legal Services Authority in processing and disbursing compensation from the Victim Compensation Fund.
In addition to this ALADC Adv Meenu emphasized that victim compensation is not merely financial aid but a step towards rehabilitation, dignity and access to justice for victims of crime. Students were encouraged to spread awareness regarding legal rights and to approach Legal Services Institutions whenever assistance is required.
The programme concluded with an interactive session in which participants raised queries regarding legal aid and victim compensation procedures. The school administration appreciated the efforts of DLSA in conducting such awareness programmes for the benefit of the students and the community. The event witnessed active participation of students and teachers. Plv Shahzad ah was also present.
